Hi all,

I need some help when it comes to what my next computer will be. Should I get the base model MacBook Pro 13 inch from 2017 or should I get the base model new Macbook Air 13 that they just showed yesterday?

Like how do they compare to each other when it comes to processing power and other stuff?

Any help would be appreciated.

Your usage would be what matters most. If it's just casual usage I would think the biggest factor would be the battery life. If it holds true to having 12 + hours. That would be the only advantage of the MBA, albeit a big factor.

Basically boils down to do you put more value on:

MBP:
  • Screen (brighter, more colour accurate)
  • Power - full 15W CPU with iris plus graphics
MBA:
  • Smaller feeling design with the wedge shape
  • Touch ID
  • 12 hours of battery life (potentially vs realistically 8 on the pro (they claim 10))
  • 3rd gen butterfly keyboard - though to some this might just be a somewhat more polished turd!
You can pretty much pick up either machine for the same price if you can find even a small discount on the pro so this is assuming equivalent specs otherwise.

Or none. I guess we'll find out. The nTB has gimped wifi so it'll be interesting to see what they do in the MBA too.

True, TBH Apple has placed itself so far outside my performance envelope I no longer care, with purchasing a Mac being little more than a retrograde step for the sake of an aesthetic, admittedly a nice one...

MBA if you compare with the non upgraded non touch bar MBP
If you compare with 2018 MBP than, this one

Personally, I'd get the Air for the third-gen keyboard and TouchID, as long as it was powerful enough for what you wanted to do.

Ok with those specs that just got released, what do you all think?

Same as Queen 6, MBA is little more than a beckon call to aesthetics. Performance is only slightly better than older MBAs and MacBooks, and not to mention worse than the new iPad Pro. If you need more than that, go with the MBP.
