Hello forum :) I am in quite a delienma at the moment. My current MacBook Pro 2012 has been in service for some time, though the laptop is still functional. I have been longing to get the
2017 MacBook Pro 15 inch for a while. The new laptop will be used mainly for film school as well as general purposes; however film school doesn't start until 2019 and therefore I am not sure if I should get the laptop now or wait for the new hardware update next year. Any suggestions ? Thanks in advance :)

2019? Seems you've got plenty of time. Might as well wait.
[doublepost=1503724485][/doublepost]Is your 2012 a Retina or non-Retina?

I just upgraded from a mid 2012 13" MacBook Pro 2.9Ghz to a 2017 15" MacBook Pro 2.9Ghz and it had been a while since I enjoyed using my computer/Mac. It's a lovely piece of hardware and getting all the little tweaks apple added in the past 5 years feels amazing.
Yet if your 2012 MacBook still runs smooth I would wait.
I did some research before buying my machine and there will be new processor tech, new Graphical tech and probably faster portable memory by the time you are going to filmschool.
You will regret buying one now once you start film school.
Unless of course your current machine like my previous one does not allow you to do any work without flipping the table every 15minutes.

Could you tell us what is wrong with the current MacBook?
What doesn't work?

There are ways to extend the life of your current 2012 non-Retina. Definitely recommend installing an SSD if you haven't already, and they will also take up to 16 GB RAM.
