Hello ladies and gents. I wonder if any of you may have knowledge or experience of something I'm recently noticing with my 15" 2017 MacBook Pro. This is not the usual "why is my fan running loud?" - it's more the type of sound. It is making a whirring or purring noise that seems to me very much like a bearing beginning to fail. Or maybe as though there is some debris in there.

The machine has hardly been used, in the grand scheme of things, so I'm understandably a little peeved. It's always used on a tabletop and has not been in high dust environments or suffered poor ventilation. In normal use the noise is not very apparent, but under load it becomes clear that it's not a normal fan noise.

I suppose my question is: how difficult and/or expensive is it likely to be to get this repaired at an Apple store? I'm based in the UK. I don't have Apple Care. It is also a US machine bought in the US, which I'm led to believe makes it exempt from any EU warranty laws.

Thanks for reading. Hope someone can help with advice and maybe give me an idea of repair costs before I consider booking a genius appointment.

In the interest of completion for anyone who may happen across this thread by way of searching, I felt it can't hurt to update the topic.

The noisy fan eventually fixed itself with no intervention necessary. I can only guess that a small piece of foreign matter had found its way in there and was subsequently ejected. Obviously from time-to-time the fans are still audible when the machine is under load, but the very obvious mechanical whirring/grinding is absent.

As you were

I don't have the 15" but the 13" TB and the computer is always between 50-60c while using a single Windows VM, I'm moving to the 16" because of that and the crappy dual core.
