I've owned my 2017 MacBook Pro for over a month now, and in this time I've heard the fan come on precisely once, and for less than ten seconds. Is it normal for the fan to be utilized so infrequently?

Depends on the load and application you are running on it. For light loads (browsing, Netflix, videos, etc.), the fans aren't audible. If I am not mistaken, all 3 models of the Macbook Pros (13" nTB, 13" TB, and 15") never turn off its fans, but is extremely quiet at idle to not be audible in normal circumstances. For example my 15" under light loads spin its fans at 2,000 RPM, but it's never audible at that speed.

I would say don't worry about it unless you are running heavy loads and the fans are still not noticeable.

Absolutely normal. Someone on here was crying (shocker, I know) that the fan is loud..

My response? I've only heard my fan come on once, ever in the past two months.

If you want to feel better about hoe your MBP is doing, get MacFanControl. Enable the CPU proximity temperature display and RPM on the left fan to display, and it will tell you if your computer ever gets into higher temps (I think 70s C is when it starts cranking). If you notice 80C and fans going at 2,000rpm, then you might have an issue.
