It's a 15" 2017. I recently went back to a colder climate and that made the popping worse. Now my macbook pops like 5 times after I open it and turn it on all within 30 minutes.

I'm pretty sure that one time it popped and I looked at the screen and it was shaking a little bit - like the pop was so hard that it shook the screen!

Does anyone know what to do about this issue? Does apple care? Will it damage the macbook over time?

Yup Apple knows and will replace the display. Make the appointment and it will be repaired. Mine did the exact same thing and they knew about the problem. I did not think the popping noise was the display, but it is, and they will fix it.
