It's up to you and your needs.
It performs better than the i7 thats for sure and i think both i7 and i9 will get improvements with future updates.

Depends on your needs (without further indication it's difficult to give advice), but keep in mind that for most use cases CPU bumps provide the most marginal improvement out of all the available upgrades, and that the base 2.2 GHz i7 is already a very powerful processor.

It really depends on what you need the computer for. Since you didn't define your usage, its impossible to say whether its worth it for you. Beside, only you can make that determination.

For my needs its not worth it.

I bought the 2.6GHz i7. Sweet computer. No thermal issues. Not too far behind the i9.

You need to use physics to accommodate the i9. You just can't cram it into an enclosure that thin.
