My MacBook Pro's battery health is around 70% which even fluctuates between 50% and 70%. I want to replace the battery and thermal paste because of excessive heat and performance problems, but I just want to know why the hinge sometimes makes this crack sound.

I know I should probably but a new MacBook, but I kinda want to wait until the M10 or when they start using silicon-carbon batteries or solid state batteries.

Anyways, I presume it's because of heat expansion or something? Will it go away with a new battery and thermal paste?

I've noticed that on older Macs; seems to just "Stick" a bit and the crack is it "un-sticking."

I've never bothered trying to fix it... never seemed to cause any real problems.
