Hi,

My 2018 MBP just arrived and so far I love it, just wondering how tight the hinge should be. My previous laptop was super loose and I've never had a Mac before, so I don't really have a point of reference.

Currently it's openable with 1 hand, and it doesn't fall open if i hold the laptop sideways or something like that. So it is not too tight, nor is it too loose. But if I keep it on my lap and type the screen wobbles a bit. Is this normal or is it too loose? Am I being too paranoid? :D

If I put one finger on the back of my 15" MBP and one finger on the notch and lift the screen, it "almost" lifts the front off the desk. As I remember my 2017 MBP was about the same. The weight of the whole laptop is just barely enough to fight the friction of the hinge.

Hm mine is pretty close to lifting it like you say. It's definitely not lifting it but not that far off. Guess it is fairly normal, hopefully it holds up over time.

Sounds like your is just like mine. I would rather have is a bit tight when new as I am sure after a year or two it will loosen slightly. I think there is a way to adjust the hinge tension, I do not know for sure.

Enjoy, I am enjoying mine!

I was actually concerned it was too loose, after my friends and I having many loose screens that's about the last thing I want

I am enjoying it, thank you!! :)

Sorry if I wasnt clear, it's definitely loose enough but I'm wondering if it's too loose. I don't want it wearing out and becoming floppy over time.

I don't think you need to worry, I have the 2016 basic same design and almost 2 years and its as tight as day 1. It doesn't lift the bottom with one finger but it feels close to it, just like day 1.

Sounds good, thank you for reassuring me :)
