I just purchased the new 2019 1.4 GHZ 8GB.
This is my first MacBook ever and I love it. I paid CAN$1949 at Apple and I have a week to return it.
At Best Buy(Canada) I can buy the 2018 2.3 GHZ 8GB for CAN$1999. Both 256 SSD.
I intend to use it for streaming and photo editing, probably Photoshop, I am not a pro, it’s just for my own pleasure and I am done with Windows.
The question to all the Mac connoisseurs, which one of these two is the best value? Keep in mind I cannot afford the next ones.
Thank you all.

I would recommend MacBook Pro 2018 for higher processor speed, faster ssd and dual fans.

The 2019 model wins on geek bench. It’s faster than the 2.3 2018 machine. Runs in turbo mode well without throttling.
Why would you get a machine that’s slower and a year older?

dual fans are required because it uses an older CPU, which il SLOWER than the new one despite the lower clock.

considering the better CPU and improved keyboard, I would keep the 2019 model.

By reading the specs I would say the 2018 is faster. Again, I am newbie in the Macworld

Using photoshop the processor would rising clock speed and it would getting hot.

That why dual fans would be better.

Since I'm assuming that you're a teacher or a student or even a parent of a student or home schooling kids (apple doesn't verify in USA or Canada as far as I understand), why don't you return the laptop and order directly from Apple. You can buy the same laptop for $1819, and receive a free $400 pair of beats headphones. Or, as another option, upgrade to 16gb ram and you're still at only $2,019 I think it was, and either keep the beats headphones or sell them for a couple hundred. Just some thoughts as this is what I'm about to do soon.

Hey see my post about purchasing through the educational discount, I forgot to click reply to your thread. Go with the 1.4 btw.

I am inclining towards the 2018. Do you think 8GB is good enough to run Photoshop? At Best Buy in Canada you cannot upgrade the way you do at Apple.

I'd take the 2018. The keyboard can be replaced with the 2019 keyboard. The 2018 will have 50% faster wifi, faster SSD, and I suspect faster graphics.

Or even better, wait until the end of October and see if there is anything compelling with the new launch. There probably isn't in the 13" space, but you never know.

8GB will be enough for Photoshop unless you're doing particularly heavy work with very large files.

My Canon 5DIII RAW pictures can be 24MB. Are this “big” files?

No, not in my opinion. I work with similar files on my 2015, which is a dual core. It’s not fast when doing HDR, but the newer 13” has double the multicore performance so would run through these tasks far quicker.

From a memory perspective it doesn’t have issues.

One last question, I thought wi-fi and SSD are the same. How the 2.3 wi-fi can be faster if it uses exactly the same card according side to side specs? I still have 2 more days to decide.once I decide I will be ordering photoshop 2019

The fan also different. Single and dual fans.

After you have decided please inform here.

Nope, not the same. The 2018 and 2019 2.3/2.4 are three antenna systems (3x3) and the 2018 nTB and 2019 1.4 (along with Air) are 2x2 systems.
