Now it bends,
Are you taking it back?
Return it? I’ve bought 3 more to support Tim Cook’s bank account
Mine was flat as a sheet, so I put a bend in it, not to be left out
Tim Cook has us all bent over
i will hold off buying a new one until they get straight __
Mine isn't bent so I'll be keeping it. If it were bent, I would return and get a new one. If that new one was bent, I would return and keep my money. I suggest the masses do the same and life will be okay.
I've gone from a Space Grey 256GB 11" Wifi, to a Space Grey 512GB 12.9" Wifi, and finally decided on a Silver 512GB 11" LTE. Not one of them were bent. I'm keeping.
The thing I'm wondering is, how does a bent one look in the Folio? I would imagine the fit would be weird.
If mine were bent out of the box I’d return it until I got one that wasn’t. If it has bent some time over the month or so I’ve had it? That’s a tougher call because that’s distinct from the out of the box issue. It suggests a durability problem over a manufacturing problem.
This isn’t going to be the last of this. I don’t know how much of that Verge article was the company’s position versus the site’s interpretation of their position, but it didn’t do Apple any favors. How does an individual store draw a distinction between something that was that way brand new compared to someone that bent theirs later. Is the “normal” bend putting stress on components inside that might make them more prone to failure over time? How does all of this interact with Apple Care?
To use an imperfect analogy - I had a mattress delivered once. I noticed the delivery guys had, by sliding it on the ground in the rain, torn the plastic cover on it and it, which resulted in a scuff and small stain on one corner of mattress. It didn’t cause any visible problem with the mattress that I could see besides being ugly, but I didn’t know if the abrasions might cause a problem down the road. So I called to ask about whether I could just keep it and if anything happened later have it replaced under warranty and she said no, if I accept it, I’m essentially saying it was fine upon delivery and damage like that will appear to be caused by me, which affected the warranty coverage.
I tried this 3 days after launch, when I noticed the bend and the Apple Store refused to replace it. 2 employees essentially said they couldn't do anything about it without me paying for an AppleCare+ replacement.
As soon as I showed them, they immediately told me Apple's quality control is really strict and that it would never be sold bent and told me that I most likely bent it. There was nothing they could do apparently. Not sure if I will bother trying again since it is way past the 14 day return period and my initial experience was extremely unpleasant.
This is just innovation at work. Samsung’s making foldable screens. Apples making bendy iPads. I’d take a bendy apple device over a foldable android device.
That's a bummer for sure, sorry to hear that. Hopefully they clean up these issues.
Nope. I am sitting here typing this on my 11” ipad pro right now with a big ass grin on my face. This is by far...The...Best...iPad i’ve ever owned...wait...scratch that...The Best Apple DEVICE i’ve ever owned. Period.
I’m serious. This thing is amazing. As an artist, I’ve been sketching on it everyday. Bringing it into the city in my backpack. Editing photos & videos on it at home and in cafes. Face ID is flawless. The screen is bright & huge. The new pencil is fantastic. I am loving everything about it.
Thats why it feels so surreal hearing all this negative hysteria about bending. Bending in the factory. Or bending in backpacks. Mine wasn’t bent when i got it. And it hasn’t bent since. And i throw it into my backpack every day. I have it in a case, but not cause i fear it bending...but because i have cracked every screen on every ipad i’ve ever owned.
I am much more worried about cracking the screen than i am about it bending. None of my artist friends have experienced this bending. Either when they first opened the box...or after several months of heavy use. And i have some bad ass friends who travel to remote locations and don’t just sit at a desk.
Look. I have seen the bend video by JerryRig that started this all. And i still laugh. Pure Clickbate. Every youtuber has bent any new Apple product that has come out. Nothing new. Things bend when purposefully trying to bend them. Dur.
*** But about this slight, imperceptible bending out of the box “some” are experiencing. Simple. If you notice it when you first open your iPad...and it bothers you...EXCHANGE it. You’ve got 14 days.
I have exchanged several Apple products over the years for various factory flaws. Like dead pixels etc. Apple is really cool about it. Just go into the store and get a new one. Or don’t.
I just exchanged the 10.5 for a new 11 and luckily it wasn’t bent, and I checked in the store. If it was, they said I could exchange it right there in the store.
Exactly. Nothing to worry about. I got the 11” as well. You’re gonna love it.
Just need to wait for the film that I got to arrive tomorrow and I’m looking forward to getting going on it. I’m always paranoid about scratching so I try not to use it too much beforehand (it’s already covered in fingerprints because I couldn’t wait). Looks amazing so far!
Yeah, i am actually considering getting a screen protector for the first time. I have cracked every screen on every ipad i have ever owned. Lol. I am far more worried about cracking the screen than i am about bending my ipad. This is the most i’ve ever spent on an ipad, so it’s probably worth it. As an artist, they say it helps create a more paper like feel when sketching or writing with the apple pencil as well. And although the colors & brightness supposedly take a slight hit, the benefits far outweigh the negatives. Enjoy your new ipad!
Mine aren't bent, but I would have returned them if they were bent at all.
The Bendy Wooden iPad Case, Now With Added Hinge .... If you have a new 2018 iPadPro, then you probably need a new USB-C hub. ... While many of us learn to swim at school, plenty of people never return to the pool
I returned my 12.9” cellular that arrived bent out of the box. My second one isn’t bent and so it’s a keeper.
I never tried to bend the first iPad even more to see if it flexed, but it felt solid to me, it just had a curved shape from the get go. There wasn’t a problem fitting it in the folio case either, the case magnets are strong and the case just moulded to the bend in the iPad. The iPad didn’t have a single bend point where it was folded like in the YouTube videos, the iPad had a curve to it. The middle of the iPad was flush with the camera and the iPad was bowed along the long edge and the short edge, with the long edge being the most noticeable to me. So with the iPad that was bent (meaning bowed with raised corners), the folio cover still fit it. It still felt solid and still functioned. I did fork out for the 1TB cellular model and wasn’t going to accept it bent out of the box.
I will not try to bend or flex my new 12.9” cellular that has arrived straight either. It may actually have the slightest of curves to it already, out of the box, but it would need a tool of some kind to determine that it does, so it’s definitely straight enough and I’m calling it straight. It feels solid and I don’t think it’s going to bend under normal usage unless I apply force to it in a bag or sit on it, etc. So there is no need to return the iPad unless it was bent out of the box and if you are worried about it bending later via an accident, then take out Apple Care. I have Apple Care on mine, but I did my previous iPad anyway. I get it already for piece of mind against drops, screen breaks, etc, but if the iPad does turn out to bend due to an accident, then I’m covered for that too.
Is the new iPad Pro made from 6 series or 7 series aluminium?
I mean, if these are bending because of the heat output, I don't understand why people are not concerned about these things bending in the future after months of usage.
I see what you did there
Mine is not bent or warped. My 10.5 had a slight warp on the long sides from manufacturing but it worked perfect for over a year and is still going with the new owner.
