With the install of Big Sur, I can now use the built-in bluetooth controller chip in my 2018 Mac Mini with my bluetooth mouse. I'm now on macOS version 11.1, as of today, and find that the built-in bluetooth is much more solid than it was in previous versions of macOS. I had been using a bluetooth dongle plugged into my USB keyboard to get the mouse to work, but don't need that anymore.

The problem is that when I restart the mac, the bluetooth mouse needs to be manually re-paired wtih the mac. So I have to keep a wired mouse around for reboots. I've tried restarting the bluetooth module, and that doesn't seem to provide any help. Is this expected behavior, or should the mouse be connected/paired after a system reboot? Is there anything that I can do to fix this? It's not a show-stopper for me, but it is annoying *smile*.

Thanks.

Big Sur fixed my bluetooth mouse problem, and I can now use the built-in bluetooth controller as well. Before I had to use a bluetooth dongle plugged into my keyboard, which was a drag, since I had to hotplug it and manually reconnect it for every reboot. Now when I reboot the mac the bluetooth mouse stays connected to the internal bluetooth controller, which is very welcome...not sure if that came with Big Sur or moving up to the M1-based mac mini that I got a few weeks ago.

So things are fully functional here, bluetooth mouse-wise *smile*. I do have a powered USB 3.0 hub that I got back with Mojave to try to get the internal bluetooth controller on the Intel-based mini to work quite a while ago. The hub also works quite well, nice to have all those USB ports. Especially since the M1-based mac mini only has two T3 ports which are currently fully utilized.
