Hi,

I'm thinking of replacing my old 2010 Mac mini homeserver with a new base model.
I still have an Airport Express and Apple TV in my network which enable bonjour sleep proxy functionality, so the mini wakes up automatically on network access via supported services like file sharing, remote desktop, etc.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bonjour_Sleep_Proxy

My question is whether anybody has experience if the new 2018 device still supports this functionality. I heard rumors that Apple was going to discontinue it because their Airport/Time Capsule products are no longer on sale.

edit: for anybody who might find this via search or a search engine, testing by posters in the thread suggests that the 2018 Mac Mini supports this functionality with both network card configurations (1 and 10 Gbit).

nobody knows? I think I'll have to order a mac mini myself then to figure it out.

Just the 1 Gig version.

I don’t transfer much off and on the mini locally, and 10 Gig switches still command a premium so wasn’t worthwhile spending on the upgrade for me.

Thank you for confirming. I will go ahead and order one after the holidays as I don’t need 10GbE yet either.
If anyone out there could check sleep proxy functionality with the 10 Gbit NIC then that’d be a good datapoint to have for anyone who might find this thread via search.

Ok, I have a MM2018 with 10GbE port.
Not sure if what I tried corresponds to your request.
I have tried the following config:
1) MM2018 connected to a WIFI bridge via ethernet cable, wifi adapter DISABLED
2) MM2009 connected to a router via ethernet cable

Both the Mac Minis are on the same LAN

3) Put MM2018 in stop
4) on MM2009 I connected to "vnc://<IP address of ethernet of MM2018>"

MM2018 woke up and the "Screen Sharing" app asked the password.

Bye,
Mr Hyde

That's great news, so the 10GbE version seems to support it too even though it is undocumented. Thank you for testing!
I'm surprised it worked with any router, or do you have an Airport Extreme, Time Capsule or Apple TV in the network?

No Airport/Apple TV: my router is a Netgear R7800, the other one used as bridge/repeater is a Linksys E3000 running DD-WRT.

Just a little clarification: the Mac must be in STOP. I was NOT able to wake the Mac when powered off!
