My Samsung 14" - 1920x1200 external display doesn't look good using thunderbolt to display from my new macbook pro. Things seem a little blurry and fonts look off a bit along with colors.
Any ideas?

I set it to the native resolution of the external display which is 1920x1200 and it doesn't look that great.

try to disable TV mode.
GO to system info.app to check if you mac identified your monitor as a TV

Thi is the main reason many users complaining that the font looks blurry and fuzzy.
