I don't see why a 13 couldn't handle it, especially now it has a quad core. The iGPU has more ram available than most iMacs from 6-8 years ago with a dGPU as well. Went with a 15 myself though, need the power for video editing and I prefer the larger screen.

I would think that most folks who are really into photography (be it pro, semi-pro, or even serious amateurs) would want a 5k iMac, for the real estate and processing power.

And... keep something "small and portable" for "on the road"...

But... that's just me.
While some of us photographers would love to have both, it's not in the budget for many to have both. This is especially for those starting off in photography, as you add in all the expenses for getting starting up, including camera body, a set of good lenses, accessories for the camera. Just for the camera stuff alone it can add up to a couple grand easy, then add in a MBP and you have just spent $4k. Adding a 5k iMac to that really balloons your total starting up cost.

For those that have the income level to afford both, then I'd agree with your statement, but many photographers are freelancers and don't always have that luxury, at least initially.

I feel that to be one of the set of ideal solutions.

Would you be able to tell me what your configuration was please?

I ordered one with an i7 8th gen 2.7/16 GB of RAM, it’s due to arrive on Monday. By all accounts, everybody seems very satisfied with this machine. In terms of processing power it seems to outperform last years 15’ provided you don’t particularly need the graphical prowess.

Yours has been the first overly negative account i’ve heard so i’d love to get more details if you don’t mind.

I have a 13" I7/16G/1TB model and I've been super happy with it so far. it handles everything I throw at it. I don't do much with graphics, and the dGPU is nothing special in the 15".
