Hi Guys - I was hoping to connect my new MBP (15") to my LG 38UC99-W monitor so I've purchased the Belkin Thunderbolt 3 Cable (2m) from an Apple store but I can't seem to get it to work.

The monitor will send power to the MBP but I can't output a display to it.

Should this work or do I need a different cable?

Thanks
[doublepost=1534368936][/doublepost]Could it also be a 10.14 Beta issue?

That monitor is a USB-C not Thunderbolt. The longer 2m Thunderbolt 3 cable only does USB 2.0 not USB 3.0 speeds when used as a USB cable. You need a regular non-Thunderbolt USB-C cable, or a USB-C to Displayport cable.

Ah ok that explains it. I can't use DP as my work laptop uses that. I'll have a look for a different one.

No, that one is a special charging cable that can only do USB 2.0 speeds as well.

Also when buying a regular USB-C cable I would look for one rated at 10Gbps (as opposed to 5Gbps).

Al the ones I’m finding appear to be rather a charge cable or data transfer cable. They don’t state they are for external displays.

Any suggestions for one?

Yes, either one should work. When used with a monitor they switch to USB-C alt mode and essential send a DisplayPort signal over USB-C cable.

Sorted now, bought the 2nd one I posted and it works fine.

Thanks for your help :)
