I assume it has i7, 16 GB of RAM and AppleCare+? If so, that is currently $2909 on EDU discount new. If it has 32 GB, then it clocks in at $3269. I would say a good place to start would be around $2800 for the 16 or $3100 if it has 32 GB. You might be able to get more, but that would represent a little less than a 15% discount from the EDU price (assuming you add AppleCare+ to the EDU price), which to me is fair considering the AppleCare is down roughly one year and you are obviously not Apple or an authorized retailer.

Having said that, I would check complete listings on eBay and the marketplace here and see what people are getting for them. You may be able to squeeze a little more than what I am thinking.

thanks for reply . so i should be able to get $2500 . then including applecare

I’ve been looking at 2014-5s, even 16s and 16s, as a living room email and web browsing unit (to spare climbing up to my attic office when I’m tired). Also watching eBay closely. I mean really closely... to the point to many PMBs and lost bids.

I am also still thinking about a more powerful machine to replace my aging 2011 iMac. I know the new laptops are far more powerful than my old iMac, which is good enough.

The best deal I could have bid on but let go was a mint, few month old i9 1TB 32GB W/O the Vega 20. It sold for $2800 and change. Don’t remember the exact number, mid 2800s.

Now, that was the best for a buyer. Others on the bay are more, by hundreds. The i7 1TBs w AC+ are running “but it now” 28 and change. Yours has a small SSD and only 16GB of ram but the Vega 20 upgrade. I think the base unit is more than the other i7s I might be noting (someone here will know better than me) so that works in your favor.

2500 is low. I’d buy that price but the SSD 1TB and 32RAM is probably the future proof way. I haven’t bought bc of that.

The only reason Is even buy the 2018 powerful unit is bc I’d buy a monitor, keyboard, mouse and probably do better that someone always mobile (with that gen 3). I don’t know about this flicker tho. Need to read that thread.

The ability to take the 2018 downstairs is why Id get it over another iMac. I am a buyer who wants some portability but not lots, so the risk of breakage due to poor QC exists, but is a lil reduced. So, the buyers waiting on 2019 updates are creating a buying opportunity to a very limited degree. Owners like you (I know I’ve been in this kind of situation myself) who need portability and are tired of the repair headaches (I’m with such old gear, I’m going to be a fresh kill) will unload before any updates as said updates might just devalue a 2018 more (I’m making all kinds of assumptions only as an exercise).

Gotta figure if I’m thinking that way others in my shoes might also. So, in a way, you can get a little more for that card and just the fact that you have a NIB unit. Good idea is to let buyers know you aren’t a reseller. I don’t want to buy from a profiteer. More apt to buy from a private seller.

Just an old fart’s insights as aim looking hourly for the past few months....
