Today I looked the the 1.4 and 2.4 machines side by side at the store and I did not find any difference in build quality.
It is good to hear that noticeable difference in chassis build quality does not look obvious.

In terms of display, they did look different, it was slightly less "blue light white" on the 1.4 model and just generally it felt easier on my eyes. I don't know if that was a calibration thing.
It is probably both calibration and the fact that display panels are from different manufacturers between 2.4 and 1.4 but in 1.4 manufacturer appear to be some less known, so quality is a big question.
Anyway, I myself like warm display and less blue is better for eyes, so not a bad thing.
I noticed when I compared my Air 2018 and Pro 1.4 displays, that Pro without TT and NS appeared bluer than Air 2018 without NS (it was with LG panel). However Pro with TT and NS activated was much warmed than Air 2018 with NS.
Display on Pro appeared to be more neutral, while Air was somewhat yellowish without TT and/or NS in both units.

I thought the keyboard on the 2.4 did feel a bit better but it would be splitting hairs, because I had to really be looking for it to notice it.
I haven been able to use both 2.4 and 1.4 Pro side by side but I have tested several 2.4 demo models at local shops and I remember clearly how it always was very silent, easy and very nice soft feeling to type without any hint of hollow noise when typing. However with my Pro 1.4 first time I hit the keys hollow sound was noticed. Also keys feel more clicky as if you need more force to press them. It could be as someone mentioned already the 2.4 demo models may have gotten more use at shop so keyboard has worn to be more silent. I thought of that possibility but then again my Air 2018 also felt more solid, no hollow sounding and less clicky and that unit was only 2-3 weeks old, so I doubt it had nothing to do with wear. Also need to consider that Air 2018 has one generation older keyboard but still odd.

Anyway, now after just over week with my Pro I have noticed that keys on the right side of the keyboard are a little more silent and less hollow sounding than keys on the left. Now looking at iFixit teardown photos show that right hand side has cooling fan in Pro 1.4, so maybe it has something to do with that after all. Also keys on the near center from right are still a little more silent around the location where heat pipe is located. So the left part is based on the iFixit photos almost "naked" maybe it is partly that one makes the difference. In 2.4 model there are dual fans so both sides of the keyboard have something solid behind. Still that does not explain why keys on the 1.4 Pro feel like the need more force to press them, so I suspect the keyboards are not exactly the same in 1.4 and 2.4 even them being the same generation. Also Laptopmag review give some evidence of that because if you compare listed key travel and key press force needed between the units it looks like even key travel is longer in 1.4, plus force needed to press the key is not the same, so obviously keyboard cannot be exactly the same on both.

Speakers in 1.4 Pro are not necessarily bad when listening them without comparing to say Air 2018 or better Pro models. They have well defined sounds but they are somewhat metallic/tinnier and not much bass, more emphasizing mid range.

Still 1.4 is a nice machine for a price all in all. I've been considering also if I should get 2.4 model for more premium feeling but it would cost nearly +50% more of what I paid for 1.4. Since my need for the machine is not really much other than just getting first approach to MacOS and have some common platform for my other Apple gear, so basically a new toy for me. :) I just thought it would have the premium feel of earlier Pro's so that is a little disappointment for me.

I'd say if you need basic Pro with just with 128GB hdd and 8GB ram, then get the 1.4 but if 256GB ssd or larger and/or more ram, get the 2.4.

What is temperature of the 1.4 Ghz playing 1080 YouTube video ?

Thank

I haven't played 1080 videos for long time but what I have tested so far it is very cool. Actually I have never heard my Pro even turning the CPU fan on for even once so far. I wonder what I need to do to get it running? Would be nice to hear is it loud. When when I ran GeekBench it did not turn on.

Could you try youtube and report temps since you still have the machine? Cant imagine it will be very high, even my late 2013 is silent doing that.

To get the fans running to maximum keep running cinebench r20 and I'm sure you will hear them

Yes I agree th 1.4 display appears more "neutral" for whatever reason not less bright, not a bad thing just different.... it is easier on eyes I think. But the text also don't appear as sharp to me on the 1.4 (very close!) again could be lighting?

yes I completely agree with this, seems odd to me why they feel a bit different.... then again I have had various laptops within the same line that feel different...but not this different. I do think its the lack of 1 fan on the 1.4 creating less depth.

Here in the US, its only $300 different, that maybe worth it, outside at least $500 that is not worth it!, 1.4 is a fine machine for sure!

I wasn't able to test sound because the store is very noisy -- loud music and people talking. Both sound completely silent in the store.

I need to test that later. Anyway, I don't expect to 1080 youtube videos to be any problem to new model and it won't probably much use CPU power to cause it to heat much.

There can be some color temp variations between panels, so another is almost always looking warmer than the other unless they are individually calibrated to match. Also could be some difference between panel manufacturer. Anyway in my Air 2018 screen was warmer (more yellow) than in my Pro when both units were without NS and or TT (just in Pro) turned on but my Air had LG screen and Pro FMX, but LG screen in Pro is again different panel than that in Air, so cannot make direct comparison.

About sharpness you mention I think it could be due to panel difference.
Because in my Pro 1.4 I noticed that TT and/or NS turned on there is some but noticeable banding in darker end of grey scale gradient pattern (for example Lagom LCD test gradient pattern). So it looks like panel bit depth is not very high and I think it could be that 1.4 model FMX panel is only 6+2bit panel instead of real 8 bit LG panel in better Pro. That could cause some difference in sharpness too in case aggressive dithering is used to cover panels low bit depth.

Right, in my opinion difference is too great between 1.4 and 2.4 to be just normal variation between the units (even identical models). So it think it might be due to that there are different parts like keyboards used in them (even they are nominally the same generation butterfly). To me it feels as 1.4 keyboard is more clicky and needs more force to press the keys than one used in 2.4 model.

Also could be difference in chassis structure.
Can you do simple test with your 2.4? Try pressing the chassis with your finger between the G and H keys (the chassis aluminum part between the keys but just pressing with G and H keys at the same time finger between the G and H key). Just press hard enough to see if chassis bends when pressing but do it lightly enough to not cause permanent bending, just some pressure but not too much then look and feel carefully if chassis is flexing or not.

Here in the US, its only $300 different, that maybe worth it, outside at least $500 that is not worth it!, 1.4 is a fine machine for sure!
I know. Difference in US only 300 is no brainer, just get the 2.4 if you want premium machine and/or bigger SSD or RAM than what comes in the entry 8/128GB 1.4 model. Here in Euro zone that 500 difference is in our currency (so even more in US dollars), so basically 2.4 is almost +50% more than 1.4 entry model when comparing discounted prices of the both models.

Have a question about the fan noise on the new base model vs the $1799 model with 2 fans. This video
(4:04)
shows how loud the base model fan can get. However the comparison video I saw says the fans kicked in louder on the 1799 model. Before I buy I wanted to know if there is a difference. Thanks

I briefly owned a 2019 MBAir and the fan noise was like the noise in the video -- high-pitched whine and resonance that drove me nuts. I sent the MBAir back after about a week and replaced it with the higher-end 2019 MBP (i7 2.8 GHz w/ 1 TB). I've had the fans run up over 5k RPM a few times on this MBP and they are super quiet -- all I can hear is the sound of the air rushing through the chassis. Much more pleasant to work with when under load.

Hello everyone, I want to ask which MBP is perfect for me ?? I want just normal photo editing just like basic in photoshop .. basic graphic designs like normal simple logo and normal layouts design in coreldraw or adobe illustrator.. normal office use like word or excel.. I won’t keep any data in laptop all I will transfer to external drive only .. I will just download and install software which I use n mentioned above, rest all designs n sheet data will be transfer to external drive... so should I go for 8gb model or go for 16gb ?? Should I go for basic model 1299$ or 1799$ model ?? 128gb is enough for my usage or go for 256gb ?? I never used MBP before I used dell and I was doing all this in 4gb first generation i5 model and hp 4gb 3rd generation i5 model... thnx in advance

From a RAM standpoint, I think 8 GB should be enough. What is your current HD/SSD usage? Do you like the touchbar? Have you considered getting an MBA instead?

About Hdd/SSD I was using hdd before n having 1TB and 500gb External Hdd already to keep my all data and just 300gb data i have in those 1.5TB so I was thinking 128SSD will be enough for normal work n some softwares ?? I thought I will need some basic and minor photo editing mostly I will do in photos app or may be in photoshop software and some normal basic designs of layout n logo in coreldraw or adobe illustrator that’s why I thought to buy MBP instead of MBA .. bcz pro has quad core and air has dual core n pro has better performance too so it last more than air ...

For your use case almost any machine is fine. If you’re trying to future proof, then it’s a complicated question. There are new machines with a new keyboard just around the corner. May be better to buy what you need now and upgrade sooner rather than later.

That said, unless you only plan to use about 60-80 GB, a 120 GB drive is too small. Once it gets past 2/3 full there will be performance impact with bigger and bigger impact as it gets closer to full.

The biggest weakness of the MBA is its graphics, but on the flip side it runs much cooler than either MBP.

Now I am a bit more confused 😐
I will not keep any data on laptop and I won’t keep any software which I won’t use bcz of 128gb SSD so I will keep try to make it empty like 50-60gb atleast or more .. but I will think again for 128 or 256 ..
now one more question comes in a mind, is it worth to spend this amount on MBP 2019 ?? Or I should go for any windows laptop which I can get around 600$-700$ ?? I had bad experience about dedicated graphics in past with dell about reballing and all so I thought dedicated is not good and integrated is better. But about performance dedicated is better so I thought MacBook with integrated is smooth than windows so may be it is better choice .. I am stuck now in doubts ...

If you do not care about Mac OS then get a Windows laptop.
You have a very nice selection of devices available for the same money.

For me the Mac is ok for home use and occasional photo editing.
Windows 10 laptop does the heavy lifting in my daily life :)
Happy with both...

IMO you pick windows or macos first, then pick the machine within. So if you decide you like macos better, than windows should not be a consideration. If you are truly OK with either, then there is better value to be found on the windows side for sure. For me, windows is not an option. I use it for work and find a lot of things about it unacceptable. For example, I have to change the default browser setting every time I boot up.

For your use case, you definitely don't need discrete graphics regardless of whether you are going windows or mac.

Thank you so much.. actually I am using iPhones since last 6-7 years and I like it and love it more than any android ones ... so I know mac will run 2x smoother than any windows laptop bcz of OS and about price is ok for me but I just wanted to know is it worth 1300-1400$ on MacBook and you solve my confusion on that so big thanks to you.. so I think 8gb Ram will be ok for me and need to think about 128/256 Gb so I guess everything is clear now for me thanks 😊 ... one more question with this configuration how long my MacBook Pro will last ?? And should I go for extra 2+ means total 3 year Apple care warranty or keep just 1 year which is by default ??

The weakest part in these machines is the keyboard and Apple includes a 4 year warranty for that (at least in the US, don't know about other countries). There is nothing that indicates that other parts like display or motherboard are any more prone to failure, so as long as the keyboard holds up, it should last a very long time (5+ years), and also be very usable. Processors and memory aren't getting that much faster each year like they used to.

Apple Care+ also includes damage protection which you don't get with the standard warranty.

I did not get Apple Care+ because I'm planning to upgrade to a newer machine when Apple has a better keyboard.

Ok thanks ... I am from India. I don’t know much about what they gives with warranty and how long it is but I will ask when I go to store for purchase. It cost more 20% than US price after tax.. so in your opinion I should buy Apple care for extra warranty ... thanks for help and suggest me better thing 😊

OK, not sure about India.

According to this page, all they offer is Apple Care (no accidental damage coverage) and it can be bought any time within the first year.
So I would buy the machine and use it make sure I like it and if everything is good, then buy the warranty before the first year is out. By then you would also have much more data about failure rates of these machines.
