After my internal fusion drive failed on my 2017 iMac I used an external SSD for a bootable drive.

Works great but the read and write speeds are around 500Mb/s so am definitely looking to replace with 1TB NVME and Thunderbolt 3 enclosure.

Budget around £250, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I just bought a Sandisk 2TB Extreme Pro Portable SSD which came in really handy in facilitating my clean reinstall of above (which fixed my Monterey SSD speed problems btw). Very satisfied. Backed up about 1.8T of data in 4 hours. Restored in 1 hour 40 mins. Granted, I did increase the backupd process priority to achieve those speeds, but still, very impressed with the performance so far.
