I happily ordered an Xs MAX. But I cant help feeling cheated. In all the hears following iPhone. This is the least significant upgrade or update ever. Heck if the XsMAX is limited to 3GB RAM I may return it. Heck they arent even offering new packaging or box from the 2017 X. So what will the iPhone bring next year. Lets use what we know.

USB-C (word is iPad Pros will soon get an update with USB-C models)
FingerPrint sensor.(word is Samsung Galaxy 10S and 10S+ in Feb will have under glass fingerprint sensors)

First 5G Radio. I was shocked at the Deal Sprint gave me. And I was suspicious. Carriers know Apple will release a 5G iPhone next year and even if the Networks are not fully 5G ready. This year At&t, Sprint, Tmobile etc are literally giving away the iPhone Xs. To lock people in for a huge upcharge to 5G next year.
A13 CPU, Apple always blows us away with stats on how each CPU is 2x faster than before. The A12 is just 15% faster than the A11. A13 will be a fully new chip.

I feel like theres no energy for the Xs and Xs Max. And maybe with good reason.

I understand your frustration with apple being behind the curve, but all I care about is imessage, the quality of ios, and the synergy between apple products that is unmatched by other smartphone manufactures.

If you're so unimpressed that you feel cheated why did you "happily" buy one? You see, Apple doesn't have much incentive to offer significant improvements when so many people will automatically buy anything they put out just because it's the newest iPhone.

I'm not super tech-savvy, so forgive me for this simple question: If Apple does this switch to a "USB-C" instead of the "Lightning" they now have on iPhones, would I still be able to connect my iPhone to my PC to do iTunes stuff?

I think you're over-worrying about the 2018 iPhone. The XS Max is likely going to have 4gb RAM with benchmark resulting showing up recently. Why does the packaging matter? Box presentation isn't going to improve/reduce the utility of the phone.

As for the changes:

• USB Type C might require you to buy a new car charger and additional cables/chargers for work.
• Apple isn't going for an under the screen FP sensor. It would be more of a waste of time to include it since they can use time to push better features onto a 2019 iPhone, especially when they need something for the tick-tock cycle.
• Apple is still innovating to an extent. They have a bit of an advantage with their TrueDepth system and processors. It's hard to reinvent the wheel in 2018 too. It requires something like foldable displays to push the market further. Other companies are even lazier than Apple.
• 5G is overrated because you're going to be dealing with bad battery life right away. Notice how long it took to get 4G LTE to the iPhone? Took till the 5. I rather have better battery life with gigabit speeds than 5 gigabit speeds and no battery life.
• Processors get better, year to year normally. What can you do? The moment you order a phone, the values can go down.
• Yes, Apple just made a better camera, put more RAM, and made the screen larger. The upgrade is very minimal. Just because an upgrade occurs, it doesn't mean you must purchase it.

I am just saying you're worrying a bit too much. Enjoy the phone for what it is, not what it could've been or what the future holds.

I know for a fact my XR purchase will depreciate over time as do all phones. I plan on using it for 2+ years, so I will revisit the market when I am due for an upgrade. Until then, I will enjoy the XR and not even think about what 5G specs I could get.

What do you mean your gift card can't be used? Apple told me that I could my Apple Store Gift Card towards the purchase of the XS.

Anything more than 3 years is heinous to me. I had my 5s for exactly 3 years (actually almost 2 years because I got a replacement) and the battery life couldn't even make it past half a day of school for me. I'm choosing to keep my 7+ until 2019 for the iPhone 11 and getting a new battery but hope the same thing will not occur once more.

I don't mind using a XR for 3 years since it has enough tech to probably last that long. A12 processor should be relevant for the duration. Most of your information is wrong. To quote performance testing:

Compared with the iPhone 8 Plus’ A11 processor, the iPhone XS CPU score increased by nearly 1/3, and the GPU score nearly doubled, the UX score also improved by 50%, the RAM score up by approximately 20% as well, accordingly, the final scores have reached 363,525, that is just insane!

The A12 is 30% faster in practice because the 7nm transistor size means it uses less power and doesn't throttle as much as the A11 does. The GPU is also literally twice as fast.

The jump to 7nm tech is massive and this will probably be one of the biggest generational leaps we see in the long time. And also 1.5 hour longer battery life, thinner bezels, faster faceID, 7nm, 6.5 inch size, brand new camera. This is the phone the X should've been. Glad I waited.

USB-C charger vs a USB-A charger -- meaning comes with a Lightning to USB-C cable, versus a Lightning to a USB-A cable.

It will still have Lightning port on the device (because it is by far the better port if they are going to have one).
