The “surprise” may be a $100 price drop. But that’s a big maybe.
$100 price drop (but starting at 32GB storage) I could definitely see just for the ‘yeah we listened to our customers’ sound bite on stage!

I expect the 2019 iPhone to not be worth my while. For those who pay for phones outright and own a 2018 iPhone, I think you're better off saving for a 5g model in 2020. 2 major OS updates later and the 2018 iPhones should be still be rock solid at that time.
Agree I have the XS max and won’t be upgrading until 5G iPhones are out and that is when a redesign should be happening as well

Cook mentioned after the new year, that Apple would focus on services and trade-in programs. I don’t necessarily expect much of a price drop with their phones, as much as they do with trade-incentives to entice consumers to upgrade from their older model iPhones to the newer models. I have a feeling a good portion of the keynote will be discussing Apples revamped pricing strategy after they introduce the 2019 iPhones.

I am not too big on a redesign with the iPhones because I find their current designs nice. The only tweaks that could be done, at least imo, is getting rid of the notch and cleaning up the bezels ever so slightly. I found the X series design to be quite impressive.

iPhone 4 got Retina Display (huge improvement)
iPhone 5 got bigger screen
iPhone 6 got the 6 Plus (bigger screen)
iPhone 7 got Jet Black & 2 cameras
iPhone 8 got a little better
iPhone X got OLED & FaceID
iPhone XS got the Max screen
iPhone XR got nothing special

2019 iPhone? Nothing looking too exciting on the horizon yet.

Not buying another iPhone unless they completely get rid of the notch somehow. I'm going to ride my X to the ground.

Apples done good on doubling down on security and leaks. However make no mistake that the 2019 iPhone will have more than better internals and a new operating system
Tim Cook or Tim ‘Apple’ realizes that there has to be a big new feature to sell iPhones besides a 3 lenses camera
Is it s foldable iPhone or an AR ready iPhone we’ll have to wait and see

And you seriously believe, with more than 2000 posts here, that Apple just randomly throws in the hardware features based on the current year’s sales figures?

All they need is a better modem, and I am fine. Very fast LTE, wifi and good reception. I don't expect a major redesign, so put the focus on things that matter. IOS 13 should be released with no lags or bugs. Hopefully they don't release a phone with any controversy "gates" as well. Make a phone that is reliable and fast. That's all that matters.

I hope they wow me with software. New hardware is always nice but not if the software stays so stagnant.

What can they realistically do though now that is an absolute must-have that would change your workflow dramatically?

Seems like at this point the software is so mature and we can generally do everything we need (the "OMG they added copy/paste!!" days are long gone) so now all there is to look forward to is hardware refreshes/redesigns.

If you detest the notch that much, then why would you purchase phone knowing it had one to begin with?
Why do you assume that the notch determines why I buy iPhones? I like iOS and absolutely hate android. I have been using iPhone since the 3GS. I love physical design changes - I've owned 3GS, 4, 5, 6, X. The notch was something I've accepted to live with but still hate (yes this is possible). Do you only buy things when you 100% like them? Like no compromises? Wow, I wish I can live life like you but I make compromises on some things or move on with something else.

Why do you assume that the notch determines why I buy iPhones?.

I didn’t assume anything, I simply asked you a question based off your response, which you said “You’re not buying another iPhone unless they get rid of the notch”, which led me to ask you further. I don’t think that was confusing, nor assuming anything of the sort.

So, you’re asking me question(s), but yet answering for me without actually knowing the answers? <— That would be an example of assuming.

I’m not saying you can’t like the iPhone, I just didn’t understand your reasoning why generally you purchased an iPhone with something that you knowingly didn’t like in the first place, but yet resort to complaining about it. That’s fine that you don’t like the notch, but in your first post, you really didn’t explain your logic why, which is why I asked you.

Sounds like it's going to be more expensive.

Oh wow - I look forward to things like picture in picture right now much more than hardware refreshes. I look forward to a much more capable version of Siri. I look forward to rotating wallpapers. I look forward to a better homescreen. I look forward to better notifications. I look forward to a day when I can plug my iphone in to a screen and have a full desktop experience like you can currently with a two year old Samsung phone. I look forward to the possibility of being able to choose default apps. I look forward to something comparable to Google's night sight. Maybe some of these will come this year, maybe they'll come a decade from now but the point is, there is still a lot to look forward too on the software side.

I don't want to argue or get technical with what you said because I can already see this can be an endless back and forth. Its okay you don't understand. It really is. I'm not here trying to convince people why I like the iPhone X but hate the notch because why should I? it is a waste of time. Things are the way it is because of preference. Some people do things because of their own personal preference. Right? With me so far? OK. I like my phone to run iOS and not android. I always upgrade my phone when a physical design change occurs because I like design changes. So this is why I bought the X because its a physical design change (I wanted a physical design change upgrade and not the 8 or 8 plus). I love the iPhone but sadly the X (albeit it was a design change) had the dreadful notch. I had two options. 1 - change the OS altogether and move to an android device OR get the 8 or 8 plus. 2 - suck it up and use the iPhone X as it was intended to be used (with the notch). Like I said earlier, I like iOS and I love the iPhone so I chose option number 2. I hope that makes sense and hopefully you understand? If not it is still OK like I said I am not here to convince anyone or 'pretend' to hate something when I don't and yes I cannot wait for Apple to get rid of the notch (so excited about no notch) and yes I will run my iPhone X to the ground until a 'no notch' iPhone is available.

Then stop caring because it will.
2019 model maybe but eventually it'll be gone

Surprise, it cost more :).

Since you seem to know what is going to happen, maybe you can tell me. Will the 2019 iPhone remove the camera bump on the back?

If not, I really don't care what it's got, because I won't be buying it. Again.

The camera bumps on most phones aren’t going anywhere. They really aren’t a big deal. Personally couldn’t care less.

There are plenty of non-Apple phones that don't have a camera bump. Apple could choose to have the camera flush with the housing. They did it with the 5, the 5s and the SE.

I've been waiting for them to do it since the 7, but they've decided that this is a design element. So, I've decided that my next phone won't be an iPhone.

Glad the bump doesn't bother you. But I'm not you so I can't share the feeling.

Ipp with 4gb ram - they are still refreshing so no chance with iphone...

The worst is when Apple Music/Spotify refresh & you lose your place in a lengthy playlist...

Spotify rubs it in by lagging big time & appears to be a massive RAM hog upon opening sometimes as the App menus ‘stutter’ for a few seconds.

Oh no not again with the bump!
