Ever since updating to Tahoe, the Mac Pro has been feeling sluggish and problematic and as of late I have started experiencing random crashes. I'll come to the desktop having completely shut down with the error "Your computer restarted because of a problem". I am almost tempted to go back Sequoia. Another thing I have noticed is that the computer wakes often, no idea why.

Thoughts, or am I the only one?

A huge discussion on it here:

Mind you the 26.3 beta 3 is also pretty poor on Silicon macs for frame rates in games, there is an issue in it.

This isn't something I have experienced, I would be running some checks on the hardware. Mine run quite reliably.

Mine are both W3275M Xeons, one has a single W6800X MPX with two LG Ultrafine 6K screens, the other is dual W6800X Duos with an Apple Studio 5K connected to it.

The single W6800X machine has 26.2, the other 26.3b3.

Go back to Sequoia. Tahoe is never going to get as good as Sequoia for Intel. Not even by .5/.6.

They just don't care about Intel. This actually plays in their favor, forcing MP owners to "Upgrade" to a M series chip just to run Tahoe.

I just spent 2 days going back to Sequoia and I'm very happy now.

If you ever do want to test Tahoe again maybe 8 months from now, make a new Volume install future updates of Tahoe and test on a separate volume.

I 100% guarantee that even if Apple gets Tahoe to a usable place for Intel MP's, the performance still won't be as good as Sequoia. The Liquid Class crap and a bunch of other garbage they added eats up CPU/GPU cycles for no reason whatsoever.

The solution down the line? Get a Mac Studio or something. That's what I'm going to do, but I'll squeeze out as much as I can from the MP.

FWIW, mine is running silky smooth with all liquid crap turned on. This is after a reinstall of Tahoe and restore from TM.

What's your general workload looking like?

It seems that you have a native MPX card, who knows it may be related to my OEM 6900XT.

I have an 580X MPX in my storage, if I had Tahoe I would test it. I am loving my time in Sequoia 15.7.3 everything feels normal again and I can get work done.

Most of the day it's just dozens of browser tabs open for monitoring client systems, archiving stuff from YT before it's gone, tinkering with some diffusion bee. Testing the odd game - need to buy Crossover. Been following folks on reddit with some fluid dynamics simulators that should max GPUs, but haven't tried it yet.

I still haven't moved to a new place with better power - but soon!

That's not too bad of a workflow, so I guess you're not pushing the system as much or at least a normal workflow like I am

It's just frustrating, lets hope 26.3 has resolved some of these issues.

I suggest Sequoia. I think Tahoe will be "OK" for Intel by .5 or .6, but no way Apple cares enough about Intel to match the Sequoia performance which runs amazing on 15.7.4.

I was on Tahoe since it's .0 release on the Intel and was frustrated for many months until I downgraded to Sequoia after seeing how bad .3 is still.
