My brother's 16 inch failed with a broken AMD GPU 2 days after warrenty ends.

I needed 6 replacements just to get one that wasn't microfreezing all the time. Now it has regular TCON Timeouts (causes split seconds of black screen every now and then) that Apple doesn't want to fix because they cannot reproduce it... I'm not surprised if it also dies right after the warranty ends.

My 2013 Late on the other hand is still working flawlessly after 7 years of use... Sometimes I ask myself why I actually wanted a new MacBook....
The 16" Intel MBP has so many driver and graphics issues. It overheats and is noisy. I think most of the problems come
the heat and the micro-freezing is just bad graphic drivers.

here is a tip DON'T buy any INTEL MBP. They are trash. They overheat, graphics suck.

I honestly think that the Apple Silicon MBP 16" will destroy the intel 16". In CPU and GPU, the M1 16" won't be **** and won't crap out. The M1 MBA can drive a 4k monitor WITHOUT heating up. On the M1 air Temps stay on 25-30 on idle.

On the intel 16" oh boy, having an external monitor is a PAIN. My mistake was buying the 16". I wanna sell this laptop and just wait for the reviews on the next M1 16".

Same.. but it already lost so much value. I paid 4000€ for that thing.. on the used marked, I can be glad if I get 2000€ for it now. that's why it's not worth selling. Yeah, when AS 16" comes out the Intel 16"'s value will drop significantly.

But the 16" AS will probably cost about as much as the 16" Intel if not more. Especially if you factor in Apple's rip-off prices for RAM and SSD storage.

Yep the price will drop. Oh definitely, the AS 16" will be expensive BUT it will be WAY WAY better than POS intel 16" and make the price worth it. As for the RAM and SSD I always go for base models as 16GB RAM is enough for me. As for the SSD I always buy an external SSD.

I can't wait for their release because I really want efficient and powerful chips. I bet the battery life on the AS 16" will be great if they keep the 99wr battery. Maybe even the best battery life in any laptop. After all 99wr is max allowed in a laptop due to Airport rules.

Most fun thing on the 1000$ bills for logic repair is that most of the time the issue is with like 2-3 components for 2$ :) so they will sell you new board and the old will be repaired and sold again as refurbished laptop.. i believe thats how they do it…btw, can you request the old board? I mean, its yours you have paid for it

You can't. They will replace it. Not give you a new one.
And yeah, they will refurbish the board for 10$ and then sell it to the next poor soul for another 1000$.

I suppose the reason for these failures is device cooling policy.
Apple doesn't want you to hear the fans as long as possible. They start too late and even when they start and temperatures are coming to 100C they are sitting at 30-50% of max RPMs possible.
It results in MBPs cooking themselves to death - it's just a matter of time. it will not happen immediately, but in 2 or 3 years it will (of course, it depends on your workload, number of heavy tasks, soldering quality and other production stuff).

Well, standard semiconductors operating temperature is up to 125C i believe so temp around 80-90 shouldnt be any concern for them. AL capacitors may dry faster in power supplies, those are the big ones and the logic board is mostly 5V circuitry without them since the power supply is external charger.

Ya these 16" macbooks run very hot. I actually override their automatic fan control, especially when the laptop is in my lap because it gets so hot. Will just set the fans to like 3500-4000rpm depending on conditions.

With that said I still have a 2011 macbook pro 13" that runs like 95-100c pretty much non-stop and hasn't died yet.

My 2019 MBP 16” has just experienced a logic board failure after 1.5 years of light use. Apple asking £552 + VAT to repair it. Really disappointed at the poor quality and cost to replace. I think I’ll need to go back to a Windows machine if I can no longer rely on Apple.

You may want to trade it in for the new M1x 16" MBP and this time get the AppleCare+.

I purchased AppleCare+ on my 16" Intel 2 years ago - 1 more year to go!

Guys i knew it its not our fault
what if we all unite and get Apple to reimburse us
this cant be fair look at all this 16 inch macbook pros for logic replacement afet 16-18 months thats ridiculous
my 16" macbook pro died on a light use after just 18 months and i know the reason the technician told me that those USB-C ports are weak and the power management chip fails thats why they came back to separate power port i wish some famous youtuber gets on that and win hour honor back so frustrated i feel for all of you
i couldnt even save my data since when a logic board dies you cant backup anything from the drive
they take that drive (basically you never own that macbook they just borrow it to you)
and had to pay 1100 $ for the repair when you can find one on craigslist for the same price look at all of us lets do something this is evil

the reason is power management thats why they went to a separate power output cause USB-C cant handle data, power and all

I had a 2019 16" and had no issues with it failing.

Anyone hoping for Apple to help out, just review what happened w/ the 2011 "radeongate" issue where the dgpu became unsoldered from the board! It took Apple a long time to finally admit to that issue and since it was a materials defect, all replacement boards had the issue as well. I had one fail as I was testing the replacement before leaving the Apple store. My 2011 had 4 logic board replacements before they finally swapped it for a new 2014 one.

The 16” MBP from 2019 is trash. I got mine on day one and the logic board went out very close to the 1 year warranty expiration date.

It gets hot and noisy with even the most basic tasks and battery life is terrible.

Planning on trading it in and upgrading to the 14” soon.
