Hello there,

with rumors floating around about miniLED technology being delayed, i want to discuss what the next "big" refresh of the 16" macbook could hold in store for us.
Lets say that miniLED macbooks drop sometime early/mid 2021, would that mean that the 16" would receive no major update until then? I personally don't see apple going into holiday season this year without having a refreshed 16" model, but at the same time i don't see what they could improve aside from some minor processor updates. What are your thoughts on this?

I am currently in the market for a 16" but i could theoretically hold out until late 2020 to get one. I just don't want to wait and later regret it because it was not worth it or there is no update at all in 2020. Waiting almost a whole year for miniLED would be silly considering i am already frustrated on a daily basis with my current machine.

Probably Intel 10th generation chips (re-branded 9th gen) with slight bump to clocks. Might see updated AMD GPUs based on RDNA 2, matching same GPU technology in next-gen consoles, depending on how the schedules line-up.

Wait - there are 10th-gen mobile CPUs that are yet again another 14nm refresh?! I thought all the 10th gen mobile chips were 10nm! Danggggg.

Buy the 16" now, you can find it refurbished or with a discount if you don't buy it from Apple.
Even if they update it with the 10th gen CPU it is not going to make a huge difference in performance, it will be faster but you'll pay more unless you wait, and you say you're not happy with your current machine, so go for it.

Mini-led and 10th Intel this summer or fall would be awesome if the price stay the same.
