are you gonna do the shuffle song and dance to make it happen, or HODL (hold)?

Yes - looks like the new Air will let me consolidate my 2018 MBP15 & early-2020 MBA into a single late-2020 Air. This has a few advantages in my usage / workflow that aren't really relevant to others though, and I think I'll recoup more total value making the change now than if I wait a few months.

If I had only the early-2020 MBA, I might not make the change.

Not a deal breaker, but I really really wish they left the brightness function keys alone

Sure, you can use CC brightness slider with Big Sur, but still, it's something I use all the time and will be tough to train myself out of muscle memory to not have the option.

Boggles the mind what conversation lead to thinking that aspect was a good idea imo

I got a great deal on the i5 quad core and 512gb config, and don't really want to downgrade to 256gb base, and some concerns about niche app compatibility, and never run out of juice when I need it even though the M1 battery gains seem awesome. So I'm probably a hold.

I like that they added the p3 screen to this one though

Screen brightness function keys are still there on F1 & F2 in the product images What moved was the keyboard backlight brightness F5 & F6 hotkeys.

Clearly that'll impact different folks different ways, but I so rarely ever adjust keyboard backlight brightness that I can't imagine this being an issue for me.

How frequently are you finding you need to adjust keyboard backlight?

oh that's good,

thought it was screen brightness which is way more imperative

Seems several outlets reported this unclearly, leading to confusion.

Per Apple's site the keyboard images show the screen controls are still there. https://www.apple.com/macbook-air/

We now have Spotlight, Dictation, and DoNotDisturb replacing Launchpad & Keyboard backlight controls.

I’m torn. I don’t NEED to upgrade and don’t really know if I want to lose $200 in resale value just to get it. But it does look like a really good upgrade.

I am pretty sure I will upgrade, but still upset the update came so quick as I just got my 2020 in April.
