No. I'll just check the OEMs websites for new hardware during the event.

Yeah, MacRumors also has a pretty good itemized list of all the vendors/products that will debut during the week. A lot of interesting products, but it seems many of them never really come to fruition, but more or less, just demoing the potential technology for the future.

Can average Joe's go to CES, I assumed it was only for industry and press.

It's for industry people -- but it's pretty broad criteria since consumer electronics hits so many industries.

But, yeah, there is no "general public" ticket.

I haven't been in a couple of decades, last time I went, we were there to setup an interactive wall, pretty cool tech, ahead of the curve, but the time away from the convention ... well, it says in Vegas :D

I want to see this. This should be cool. If Apple releases a gaming MacBook Pro this year this would be something they have their eyes on

No, they don't have their eyes on that at all. I guarantee that they do not. It's just another crappy piece of gaming hardware that'll cost nonsense prices to get and offer the user naught but the experience of well refined snake oil. Gamers are the biggest suckers on planet Earth for the amount of snake oil they've bought into. It makes me laugh to be honest.

Do you know how much battery life a 360Hz display would eat up? Or what kind of GPU would be necessary? 240Hz at 1080p presently requires a minimum of a Nvidia Geforce GTX 1080 8 GB on medium/high settings. It just wouldn't be feasible to cram that into a Macbook Pro chassis and have any reasonable performance given the heat that would be produced(would also cause throttling) and it would have like an hour or two of battery life.

One of the first years I won't be going... Scheduling this time around made it impossible to go. Looking forward to seeing and hearing what comes out this year though.

You have to be tied to the industry in some fashion and you have to provide proof of that tie in. The early bird special is $100 after that the prices go up.

Probably with an external GPU then (perhaps..?)

Sure. I guess they could do that, but will likely never be Nvidia powered, as much as I'd kill for a Geforce 1650 inside my 16" MBP instead of a goddamn 5500M.
You could hook up an external one, no..?

I'd just use my gaming PC if I wanted guaranteed, excellent gaming performance.
I don't have one but may consider and external GPU for my 15" MBP. As of now it is powerful enough for everyday work and tasks. Can't complain as it has been amazing for me so far (knock on wood).

Honestly? I would just build a gaming PC if I were you. It's overall a better investment than a eGPU. Build one around an AMD Ryzen 3600 and an Nvidia 1660 Super and you'll have a 1080p rig for years to come. Besides, gaming on macOS is so great that most people use bootcamp to game.

Entrance fee is $300 and this year is the year I have seen the least amount of people show up. Scary how very few people showed up this year

Sharing some pictures from CES 2020 with everyone here. Massage chairs are big this year.
