Obtained a working 2020 iMac (iMac20,1) for $300, had a crack in display but worked fine. During shipping, it took a beating with FedEx, and now the frame is bent where the display sits and half the display stopped working. No hardware issues (besides screen/frame damage) and still has an apple warranty until October 2021. The reason I state it has AppleCare is I'm curious if anyone has paid for similar repairs (accidental damage) to the display/frame and what the cost was.

What are my options when it comes to older model iMacs that will work with this 2020? (year iMac housing/display that is interchangeable with 2020)

Can’t you make a claim with FedEX?

Basic warranty not AppleCare+

Yes. FedEx insurance will only pay the actually cost of the item sold ($300)

Claim the $300 then. Better than nothing.
If FedEx let you keep the broken iMac, then you can just connect it to another monitor and use it at it is.
The 5k LCD can be replaced, it just costly.
But the frame will need specific skill in metal work to get it back to original shape and look. A lot of work hour. Sometime it'd just cheaper to replace the frame, which is not available on parts market, yet.

Write off the $300 "to experience".
Throw that Mac into the trash -- it's not worth trying to repair what I see in the pics.
The motherboard may need replacement as well as the display and enclosure.

Next time, buy a Mac from a reputable source.
I'd suggest Apple or Apple online refurbished.

The original idea was to replace the display ($400) however during shipping the frame got damaged and half the screen works now. So my whole idea went down the toilet. The box received was in just as bad of shape as the iMac.

This was for my kids and it was going to be a project they help repair. Otherwise I would have purchased directly from apple.

For those looking. iMac 2019-2020 will work together.

What are the specs on the iMac? The internals will be worth something to somebody, especially if it has a higher spec CPU, GPU, or SSD
