Have any CPU/GPU benchmarks come out yet? Looking to see if the i5 version would be an upgrade to my 2016 MBP 13 nTB.

It would be available from March 23-25. Because that is the first batch, which will be shipped to the owners. And since then, you can start searching for benchmarks.

Oh Yes I forgot to mention

Your multicore score in Geekbench 5 is far higher than the referenced benchmark on the news item on the front page. If accurate it means that the i5 MBA is faster by 30% in the single core score and matches the multicore score to my 2016 15" MBP TB. That would be insane.

MBP 2019 3.9 Ghz for all cores means that has 21,8% higher frequency than 3.2 Ghz for all cores in Air 2020
But I have a 3800 GB 5 Multicore which is 17% higher than 3238 score for AIR.

Maybe a better IPC for new Ice Lake or MBP throttle sooner...

Core i7-6700HQ has 3.1 Ghz for all cores... But if you load cpu for longer period your 2016 15" MBP keep 2.6 Ghz but Air will go to 1.1...

I have checked for base 1.4Ghz MBP 13 2019 July, and it has 945/3992 for single/multi core performance in geekbench 5. So last year, every youtuber was hooraying, since base MBP13 2019 outperformed 15 inches from 2015 and 2016.
So this number makes sense for air. Since Ice Lake makes more computation because it heats less before throttle. That is why single core performance is astonishing, with respect to its' size and TDP. While multicore score is obviously lower, because has less turboboost and low wattage cpu.

OK those benchmark stats seem pretty impressive, especially single core!

Never understood the air... does a few inches of space saving make THAT much a difference? I'd rather have the power of a pro.

The Pro definitely provides advantages in terms of screen quality, port selection, power, ssd speed, ability to have a dedicated GPU, wifi antennas (3x3 MIMO) etc. Though one can marvel at how powerful the Air is now in terms of raw CPU speed. It's CPU is pretty much as fast as the 1st gen 15" TB MBP released in late 2016. That's quite astonishing.

I sold my pro because the battery life was downright horrible. My Air lasts almost twice as long. Depends on what's important for you. Don't need tons of power to browse, send emails, and use office.

This is one of the reasons I just ordered the Air. The battery life is just horrible. Also ofc the keyboard, it just keeps breaking on me.. With the new processors, the Air shouldn't be very noticeably slower for my day to day either.
