Loving the new air and I figured that with the fact that it will support a 6K monitor that I could get it to run my LG 4K monitor at 4K 60Hz. Hours of research later, and I don't have an answer. I know most hubs are limited to 30Hz. I bought this one from Nonda.

It does not work above 30Hz. It says it will but it will not.
Anybody have any recommendations? The Apple one does not say anything about the 2020 working with their adapter.

I will likely end up with the CalDigit TS3 Plus, but I would like to find a cheaper alternative.

Which display? Some older displays only supports 30Hz 4k @HDMI. If have an Display Port, try this.

The Apple adapter supports HDMI 2.0 which is capable of 4K 60Hz, the MacBook Air 2020 supports 6K 60Hz so I wouldn't see a problem supporting your LG Monitor at 4K 60Hz, especially when it appears the product page hasn't been updated to include the 2020 Air yet.

Awesome. I assumed it would, but did not know for sure. I was hoping someone who had done it would chime in. Thanks so much.

It can be hard to find suitable adapters that will go 4k at 60Hz over HDMI (using a HDMI 2.0 port) but bear in mind that there's been a second version of that adapter released released recently. It's quite pricey compared to the alternative off-brand ones though - proper off brand ones that support HDMI 2.0 are obviously more expensive though. Probably not as expensive as the Apple one though!

The Compatibility expanding tab on the page you linked mentions the MBA 2020 so they should have been a bit more explicit with the models on the main description.

All I can say is that it works here but you do need to be careful re: 4k60 support as not all HDMI ports even on devices that support it on some ports will work.

Some displays support 4k60 only on 1 port, only on DisplayPort, etc.

Definitely check the spec of your monitor, but in terms of the adapter, I've been using it just fine on HDMI1 input on my AOC U2790PQU for the past few days.

Did you enable UHD deep color in the monitor settings? It is under Picture-Picture Adjust-HDMI ULTRA HD Deep Color. That is apparently required for 4K@60Hz. You need to disconnect, wait, and reconnect for your Mac to recognize that it can do 60Hz.

I've got the 24" version of that LG monitor that I normally use on a Windows machine (24UD58-B) but I currently can't hook it up to my 2020 MBA to try as I don't have a USB-C adapter. I did try the monitor with a mDP->HDMI and was able to get 4k@60 once I found the setting above. Mac OS does report it as a 27" monitor, though.

Thanks for all the help guys. Eventually I will get the Caldigit TS3 Plus. B&H had it for $199 last month. I didn't need one then. The main reason I needed a hub was my MBP had 4 TB3 ports so a USBC to DisplayPort cable would be fine. With my MBA I have a mere 2 TB3 ports.

I bought the ewer version of the Apple adapter. Gets you 100 watts of PD passthrough, a USBA 3.1 port, and 4K 60 Hz with a HDMI 2.0 port. Apple confirmed all of this earlier via chat. I haven't got it yet. I can give an update once it gets here.

I do have UHD deep color turned on. It is on by default BTW.

Getting the Apple adapter with the power pass through makes sense. I don't like the fact that the tail is so short that all the cables need to be

Just to have adapters I got this Uni USB C to HDMI Adapter from Amazon today. Shows 60Hz after enabling deep color. It is disabled by default per port on my monitors. Maybe different firmware in the monitors themselves.

Just noticed that the Uni adapter is getting hot. They even included a troubleshooting note that they tried to reduce its heat. Is that normal for an adapter like this? I see other reviewers noticed this too.

Got my Apple AV adapter. Full speed on the USB port. 4K 60Hz on my monitor. Works great.
