In your opinion, what would Apple need to do for the 2020 update of the 13" MacBook Pro for it to be an 'instant buy' from you?

Is it enough to update the keyboard and processors?
Would the update to 14" do the trick? How important is mini-LED?
32 Gb RAM?

Magic Keyboard. Drop the touch bar, or at least make it optional and customizable. Current Retina IPS is fine, not sure if Mini-LED is ready for prime-time yet. 16 GB RAM standard, 32 as an option, and 256 GB SSD standard. Processor upgrade to Ryzen APU or Ice Lake would be nice. At least a quad core. And keep the price the same.

I suspect Magic Keyboard will be all it takes for a lot of people to buy one, but if if we look at the 16" for an idea of what will happen, I think we'll see a 14" screen, 256GB base storage, spec bump and everything else will be familiar - i.e. form factor, TouchBar.

If they drop the 2 port model, then I still think the 4 port model will have 8GB RAM as standard.

Perhaps the 2-Port model will stick with 8/256, and the 4-port will have higher TDP CPUs and 16/512 as standard.

The usual performance upgrades, a 14" display in the same footprint and the new keyboard. That would make it an appealing upgrade.

Actually, you're right, the improved thermals and larger screen size will differentiate it from the MacBook Air - I had thought they might just ditch it for being too "similar" at face value.

I don't know if we'll see 16Gb as standard on any as they still seem to like that as being a key differentiator on the 16" model.

10th gen processor and new keyboard is enough for me. I suspect a lot of people are like me and holding onto 2015 and earlier MacBooks, waiting to upgrade, and need or just desire something with a little more juice than the Air.

4-ports all models.
It's a frickin' 'pro' after all.
That's how you further distinguish the MBP line from the MacBook Air.

I feel like the findings of 15W Ice Lake chips being supported by MacOS points to them keeping the 2 TB port model around. Keep in mind the 2020 MacBook Airs are running 9watt chips for both dual and quad-core models.

Maybe something like...?

$1299 - 2 TB ports
15W Ice Lake
256 gb storage
8gb RAM

$1799- 4 TB ports
28W Ice Lake (Better graphics or dedicated GPU?)
512gb
16gb RAM
