Yer Mom's basement.
About once or twice a week, when I wake this mini up and try to login the following happens:

- I click into the password field, and start to type. After one keypress, then entire field fills up as though I'm hitting keys.
- I then hit delete to remove everything, and then hit a key to start typing the password.
- The same thing happens, the field fills up as though I'm hitting multiple keys.

I have to attach another keyboard, login, then restart the mini to get it to behave again. Or simply power slam and start back up.

I have an Apple bluetooth small keyboard.

Does anyone else have this problem, or perhaps a solution?

I am having challenges with my keyboard and mouse as well...upon wake up...same 2021 M1 Mac Mini...lagginess...dropped connections.

Watching this post, but also want to add to the similar challenge. If you want me to post to a new thread, let me know and I will delete this.

  • I have a Logitech K780 Keyboard and a Logitech M720 Mouse. They are currently connected with the same Unifying Receiver, but I have also tried direct Bluetooth for one and or both devices...with similar challenges.
  • When I first wake up from sleep, more often than not (but not always), the keyboard will not connect. This is the keyboard with 3 buttons for different devices. If I swap over to connect to my phone, keyboard works fine. Back to the desktop...does not connect, or connects for a second and then goes to searching (light on white button starts flashing). In addition, the cursor lags behind the mouse movements.
  • Both of these challenges occur for several minutes after waking up. The lagginess of the mouse goes away for sure. IF the keyboard messes up, usually I have to unplug the dongle and/or turn keyboard off and/or go to the control panel open and quit. I really don't know what fixes it...or rather it varies.
  • The dongle UR is connected to a USB hub, although I have tried various ports as detailed below. And, I get the same challenge when I connect direct to MacMini M1 via Bluetooth

Solutions attempted:
  • Contacted Apple Chat...then voice - no resolution...resolved to contact Logitech, but the keyboard combo worked fine on the Windows station it was running on, as well as a MacBook Air 2011 I would occasionally connect.
  • Tried a different keyboard - Jellycomb...did not work well as all with the MacMini M1. The Jellycomb has Dongle option, or BT. Neither would connect reliably with the Mac...significant lagginess...no keys, then key repeat.
  • Tried different USB Hubs. I have not tried NO hub as that just isn't an option with only two USB ports. I did get a brand new USB-C 14in1 Hub with 4 USB 3.0 and 1 USB 2.0, etc...and tried the UR Dongle in 3.0 and 2.0 ports. The keyboard may be a LITTLE less prone to dropping off.
  • Contacted Logitech - waiting on a response.

  • As I wrote this out...it just occurred to me to try to put each device on its own UR Dongle. But, to me, it seems like when the Mac is coming out of sleep, it is not waking fully up. ??? Thoughts on what might be happening?

Does it happen if you use the Apple keyboard wired?

I had something similar on my MP 5,1 w/Mojave a few weeks ago . . .

Spill on my MKII caused me to get a new keyboard--a Matias FK308B--and I (originally) thought this was the problem.

I leave my MP on all the time, and wake from sleep with a trackpad tickle.

For about a week (sometime btw. June 7-24?), I would:

(a) come-in to see that the login screen was already on, with the password field asterix'ed to ∞, with the inability to edit the field

(b) try (subsequent to (a)) to re-type the password, and find the same "the field fills up as though I'm hitting multiple keys" scenario as you

Return -> fail -> re-try/type was the only option.

It seems to have corrected itself, and things have returned to normal.

I do not remember a System update in the interim, so I chocked-it-up to a Ghost in the Machine ;)

This is almost as mysterious as my Magic Trackpad II losing Force Touch haptics for short periods of time, then coming back.

I have a friend with an MI iMac who has same problem. We've tried everything. When it wakes up, he has to reboot. All he can get to type is the gibberish and repeat letters. Is this a bug in the M1 Mac or the new keyboard? He is at the Apple Repair center in Huntsville, AL right now.

Update: The replaced his Magic Keyboard with a touch id Magic keyboard. We'll see if that fixes the problem. It will take a couple of days to find out for sure.
