2023 Formula 1 Season thread

Hoping for anyone but RB for the win. They’ve not looked good in practice, but still expect them to be at the sharp end (well Max) come Q3.

The track evolution on the final run was insane - the bottom six all suddenly were setting Purple times.

Stroll with a massive shunt to bring out the Red Flag and end the session. He is fine. Going to be a major delay to Q2 for cleanup I expect.
 
Lawson knocks Max out of Q2. Perez spins and is also out.

Max also has two Impeding investigations against him so he could be dropping even lower than 11th.

The Red Bulls looked terrible. Reminded me of that year the Mercedes just could not get around Marina Bay. If Max is sent to the back on penalties I do not think he is going to be doing his usual storming through the field.

So looks like we could have an actual race tomorrow. 😀
 
First time since Russia in 2018 both Red Bulls out in Qualifying.

Absolute meltdown. Will be interesting if they can recover by Japan. Floor Edge changes seem to have gone the opposite direction. I don’t think the “Flexible Parts” rule is effecting the RB19, but can’t be certain.
 
Oh no there go the Wikipedia stats 😉. It’s finally proof winning consistently isn’t a given I guess. Race will be interesting.
 
Nice to see the order a bit mixed up for a change. I remember Mercedes struggling here one year during their dominance so this is kind of expected to some degree with Red Bull. Singapore is a strange circuit and the humidity can also affect tyre performance.

Lando for the win please.

I enjoyed that! No RB in Q3. Happy days. Max impedes on the track and in the pits. If he doesn’t get a penalty that will be shocking.
Ferrari looked strong. But I’ll be looking for Lando or George to get the win please.
Also can we have the final 8 races of the season here please?
 
So three reprimands for Max, but no grid penalty. Everyone else gets a 5 place penalty for impeding a driver?
Clearly I was forgetting Max gets special treatment.

Don’t blame Max. It’s the F1 and the Stewards with their heads up their asses. He knows the outcome due to the lack of consistency and application of the rules. To be fair though holding up George and Charles was never going to be a penalty. Pit lane isn’t an impeding zone for this.

The on track walking pace was.

Not blaming Max. Just the fact that they seem to treat him differently to everyone else. Its sickening.
I don't think he should have had 3 penalties, but clearly the on track one was impeding. Its a slam-dunk.

Anybody else cringe at Horner’s interview where he said Red Bull didn’t need to issue a statement directly for Helmut on his derogatory comments about Checo because he doesn’t work for Red Bull Racing?

There are just 2 active Directors for ‘Red Bull Racing Limited’ registered with Companies House here in the UK, Christian Horner and Dr Helmut Marko lol.

F1 in 2023. Not surprising. Marko should have been disallowed from attending Singapore and Japan along with the written reprimand.

In regards to the Pit Lane infraction, it was possible to pass him in pit lane, though F1 prefers that not happen, and there was another massive queue at Turn 5 so even if Max had exited pit lane in an expedited manner, the stewards felt that the field would have bottlenecked there, instead, so no penalty was felt justified.

In regards to impeding Logan Sargeant, that sector was a nightmare already with slow cars everywhere and Max was (IMO, legitimately) concerned that if he tried to make a large move, he could have caused a collision. Sargeant also stated to the stewards he did not feel he was impeded, so no penalty was felt justified.

In regards to impeding Yuki Tsunoda, Red Bull Racing argued they had failed to properly inform Max that Yuki was closing so Max was not aware until he himself saw Yuki and he did move out of the way, even if very late. Alpha Tauri also did not send a team representative to argue that Max should be penalized ( 😉 ), so no penalty was felt justified.

Thanks for the deep dive. I didn’t realize AT didn’t file a complaint, or attend. One can imagine why………

But that is actually not the ultimate company. Red Bull Technology is the ultimate beneficiary or, as some prefer, the 'person' with significant control. And there you can see the link to the Mateschitz family as the ultimate beneficiary, and also the actual officers; Christian Horner and Alistair Rew. They split a lot of their activities into separate companies, not unusual when there are large risks, and large sums of money at stake. For example, there is also a Red Bull Powertrains and then a Red Bull Powertrains 2026 as well.

Sure, with the lower level companies, Christian and Helmut are down as the companies house directors, but that does not mean they are employees, and one always should follow the ultimate beneficiaries, and they aren't it either. The flow of ownership and beneficiary goes one way for as good as everything; Mateschitz.

But in short, a company director does not have to be an employee, they can be but don't have to be. I'm a director with several, an ultimate beneficiary with none 😉, and an adviser to the board with many. But I'm not employed.

Helmut Marko apologized to Sergio Pérez, that is what matters opposed to Lewis, and Lewis fans being triggered. And to quote Sergio Pérez:

'I had a private conversation with Helmut and he did apologise. To me, that was the main thing.'

'Basically, we move on. I have a personal relationship with him. Knowing the person helps a lot, because I know he doesn't mean it that way.'

It was silly of Helmut to the continent wrong, but I wonder how many more armchair experts would get that wrong. LOL, the number of times a certain demographic gets it wrong not only where my country is, but that it is a country at all. Naturally, if I say the country, I am stereo typing and when one stereotypes nowadays one is deemed making racist slurs. And then there is the Belgium reference for Max which is used all the time, including his teammates, and even Lewis used that. But somehow regarding him, that is just banter…

Anyway, Sergio is the important person here.

Yeah absolutely. It seems to be a battle between teams at the moment to make stupid comments to the press, look at Toto the other week claiming nobody reads Wikipedia or cares about records! Maybe there isn’t enough to talk about? They should take note from their drivers who seem to be the ones keeping it classy for a change.
