It will likely appear before November.

Wishing for a larger iMac with a M2 or M2 Pro chip with identical I/O of the Mac mini within 4 months as well.

M2

M2 Pro

It's a shame Apple hasn't given the iMac the M2/M2 Pro option like the mini. They really don't want anyone buying an iMac.

Other than the 2019 Mac Pro I'm guessing the iMacs has the least demand.

Having said I want those I/O I'd want to opt out a HDMI port and replace it with an extra TB4 port.

I can always buy a TB4 to HDMI cable later.

I’m guessing they are waiting for M3 and/or M3 Pro, and plan on changing the form factor to a larger screen. That is, they are not going to have two monitor sizes for iMacs . . . perhaps with the exception of an iMac Pro, but even there I have doubts given the Studio and Mac Pro options.

I think we’ll see a single size option, somewhere between 26 to 30”. If it includes M3 and M3 Pro options, that should cover almost everyone who wants an all-in-one.

Looks like they're waiting until the M3, which I would assume have the same performance as an M1 Max chip...
Okay, that might be an overstatement but still... 🤣

So it will be worth the wait for those that wants an extremely powerful baseline Mac (me).

It has been two years since May 2021 when m1 iMac launched.

if was going to launch a Pro SoC iMac and larger screen then when launched the M2 mini would be the time.

initially could argue that the screens prioritised for studio display but I can order a studio display and have it delivered Friday 9th June.

they are not having trouble sourcing the screen anymore

if still clinging on for a larger iMac with Pro SoC then going to be as disappointed as the people over int he Mac Pro section yesterday,

from Apple perspective then instead of having to make numerous skus for each SoC and then each Ram and storage level then Apple can

1.) just make studio display with stand and nano-texture variants.
2.) user can select Mx, Mx Pro Mini or Mx Max, Mx Ultra Studio based on there need.

Fair to say the iMac is not high on the priority list these days. I just hope they don't discontinue it.

The iMac's design also doesn't cohere with the rest of the lineup. Like it's a one-off. Weird.
It's designed to appeal to everyone, hence the colours or the standard silver for boring people like me.

I just wish they had updated it! My 2012 iMac is virtually obsolete with a lot of apps no longer supporting it & Catalina. I'd have instantly purchased a M2 version. I guess they are holding out for the M3 before updating it.

I have a M1 MBA & its so frustrating having to use Catalina as my iMac is still my main go-to machine. Can't wait for a new iMac running a modern OS! I really like Ventura and Sonoma looks a lot more refined.

Identical boat.

I just want a larger iMac with a M2 or M2 Pro with the base price of

- $1799 M2
- $2499 M2 Pro
- $3199 M2 Max
- $5199 M2 Ultra
- $9199 M2 Extreme

A larger iMac would be nice, although I would personally be ok with the 24" model. Could be tempted with a M3 27"!
Just dont make us wait another 12 months. If one where to appear I hope a return for Target Display Mode so we can use it with a 2034 Mac mini M9 0.5nm (A5). Consumes no more than 30W of power but the performance leagues better than a 2023 M2 Ultra 2-Die.

Would love to see a bigger iMac at $1799 or at $1999. But I think that if Apple is going to release a bigger iMac, they will advertise it as a 'Pro' machine and it will have a much higher price tag.

So $3.2k M2 Max... although it is overkill for what I need but at least it is cheaper and more compact than a $1.6k display + $2k Mac Studio + $200 keyboard + $100 trackpad

I just went ahead and bought the M1 iMac last year which is rare for me because I'm usually a "but what if an upgrade is coming?" kind of guy. Shortly after, they increased the prices so I was lucky. I also got a £120 gift card as part of the back to school promo.

Honestly, every time I use it (or I see my wife using it or my kids using it to do their homework) I totally get what Apple intended with it. It's a brilliant "family" computer. It's simple, functional, always works and quite honestly has never struggled to do anything I've asked of it. If you have realistic expectations going in it's a great device. At some point I'll probably give it to my son but it's already been a justified purchase from my perspective.

25th anniversary of iMac is August 2023

Might be a good enough reason to release a update. I’m hoping for 30” with M2/M3, just something with more than 16GB of ram.

Outside of processor, my 2014 retina 27” iMac with 32GB/1TB is better than the current iMac. Studio display costs more than a current iMac. It’s a bad lineup.

Crazy to think 10 years after buying my 5k iMac I’m fighting prices to buy the exact same screen.

No pro motion, no 16gb base model = no buy.
24” M1 8/512 owner.
The base almost certainly won't be 16gb. I think the best we can hope is the base becomes 8/512 and the step up "standard" configuration becomes 16/512. Even that I'm not super hopeful for. I thought for a while that maybe even the M3 would go to 12GB, but not very hopeful for that either.

Thank you for the head's up. I recall seeing a MW article before WWDC 2024 mentioning the 25th iMac announcement anniversary.

At the time I thought it was done that month.

In 2 months, 1 week it will be 25th iMac release anniversary.

Apple may take the opportunity to use the event to launch a refreshed iMac 24" M2 and a larger iMac with a M2 or M2 Pro with the base price of

- $1799 M2
- $2499 M2 Pro
- $3199 M2 Max
- $5199 M2 Ultra

For context the iMacs are the oldest unrefreshed Macs.

- 2021 iMac 24" M1 is over 2 years old.
- 2020 iMac 27" Intel is turning 3 years old 11 days before the 25th anniversary.

The 1st iMac 27" 5K was released on Oct. 16, 2014. ;) Your iMac's nearly 9yo.

M Pro will never be effective into that 24" chin...
And the next 24" will be the M3 based N3 SoC probably late this year or early 2024
