Smart people do. I've been purchasing all of my tech goods (computers, cameras, printers, audio gear, optics, printer paper, etc) from B&H for years. Using their card saves the California 10% sales tax. A no-brainer.

B&H is also always a pleasure to deal with. Fast shipping, huge inventory, and zero problems/issues. A great place.
Average credit card debt in California is $7,000. That’s not smart.

It's certainly smart if you pay your monthly balance in full, as I *always* do (since I've started using credit cards when I was 20 years old). Thus, using B&H's card translates to a 10% discount on everything I purchase there.

As a Gen X'er, I find it interesting that I have gone from buying Macs every release to giving Apple ZERO money for four to ten years, because ALL their hardware FAR exceeded my needs since M1 came out.

It used to be that I needed a powerful Mac to get the consumer stuff I liked to do done. I was an ENTHUSIAST.

Now, my iPhone can handle EVERYTHING. I don't do that, but I COULD.

I will never, ever, need to buy an Apple "Pro" product again. We're living in the future. And it's AWESOME.

I'm an older "hobby guy" now, but am very intrigued by the Mac Studio. I am also a refurb guy. With my Veteran's Discount, I qualify for a solid 20-25% discount on refurb vs new. When the Refurb store shows an M2 with 1TB storage, I'm pulling the trigger on it and a refurb Studio Display. My nice 2019 iMac is worth $150 in trade in. Bummer there as it does everything I do with a computer quite well.

Why not just wait another year and get a M3 Studio? MacOS 14 still supports your 2019 iMac. Although this is probably your final officially supported OS for it.

That’s what I did with my 2017 iMac. It still runs great but with it not getting macOS 14 this October, I might look into a refurb M2 Mini or studio in the coming weeks.

If you’re not using the machine for work, do your wallet a favor and ride it out another year!

($150 for a 4 year old computer is awful so the best use of money is to use it till it’s not getting new MacOS releases.)

I used to be a big believer in Apple refurbs until a couple of things happened, both involving Apple Watches purchased directly from the Apple Store. (I always have two Apple Watches so that one is on my wrist 24/7.)

The battery life on a refurbished Apple Watch 3 I bought was approximately 15% shorter than the battery life on a new AW3 I owned, puzzling for products that are supposedly shipped with new batteries in them. In addition, after a time the display on the refurbished AW3 was occasionally shown at something like 10X magnification. Clearly, Apple may have missed the problem that the watch was returned for. That problem could be solved with a restart, but restarting can be as much or more of a nuisance with a watch as with a phone or computer.

Similarly, the battery life on a refurbished Apple Watch 7 I bought became 5–10% shorter than the battery life on a new AW7 I own. (No display problems, though.)

Nonetheless, I purchased a refurbished Apple Watch 8 for my spouse—until I discovered that the price for a new one at Amazon was $10 lower, and could be delivered 4 days earlier than the Apple refurb! My Amazon card also gives me a better discount than my Apple card does. You’d better believe that refurbished watch went back to my local Apple Store.

All that’s required for credit to be of 100% benefit is to exercise the discipline to only purchase things one is willing and able to pay for when the bill comes due, and to pay the account balance in full before it’s due.

In that case, credit amounts in the very least to float. Additional possible benefits include creditor discounts, 0% extended financing options (again, only if paid on time), and improved credit scores for having a record of paying creditors on time.

I’ve been using credit for 50 years, have had countless credit cards (though I keep and use only 2–4 at a time), and have never paid interest or late fees. I’ve gained tens of thousands of dollars in advantages from card accounts over the years, with the card companies apparently only too glad to help me do it.

Since the early '80s my mantra has been, “I don’t pay interest; I collect interest.” Make yours the same and watch what happens.

I could save € 450 on the Mac Studio M2 Ultra 64 GB RAM / 1 TB SSD / 24 CPU / 60 GPU right now but I'm wondering if I should wait for the M3 model. I would appreciate your thoughts!
Depending on what you do on it, I am waiting for M3 due to better 3d/vfx (raytracing) rendering. Anything else, music/video/graphics M2 seems to be great.

I will concur with this. Payboo has been the best. Most of the time they price match too. So if something is cheaper at Best Buy or Amazon, they will price match. And addition to the price match, you save another 10% for the tax. As you said, it's not just about buying a computer every 4-5 years. There are small upgrades that I do more frequently, such as Hard Drives, NAS, Video Cards, Memory, peripherals, etc... All that 10% tax adds up!

Yes to all of the above. In addition... over the many years I've been dealing with B&H, there have been zero problems or issues with my orders. They're very efficient and ship promptly.
