I think he has to take it. There’s a good chance he never gets an opportunity at another big team. The car might be hard to drive but it would say more about him if he didn’t back himself to do it.

I think he has to take it. There’s a good chance he never gets an opportunity at another big team. The car might be hard to drive but it would say more about him if he didn’t back himself to do it.

Indeed, it's a make or break type opportunity, but he has nothing much to lose as the rumours he is heading to Aston Martin with Honda are weak at best. I think there is more chance of Max ending up there. Yuki would have to take the seat with both hands and hope the car suits him.

So what we got here.
Gasly at Red Bull was forced to drive the car that Max likes and he was not allowed to change the car to suit him, Red Bull gets angry at Gasly for wanting to change the car instead of just driving the car that has been suited for Max, and on top of this he got gets a rookie race engineer assigned to him. Red Bull acts suprised Gasly is not as fast as Max while handicapping him and kicks him out.
Gasly is winning races in the Torro Rosso's where he is allowed to change the car to his liking unlike at Red Bull. Gasly was even regulary beating Perez in the main Red Bull car, but gets denied a promotion back to Red Bull.
Yet somehow, Lawson gets the Red Bull seat despite being beaten by Yuki. And Yuki wasn't that good in comparison to Gasly.
So Red Bull their strategy is really putting their worst drivers in the main Red Bull team. Perez, Lawson and now potentially Yuki. None of these guys are good at all.
Guess Jos Verstappen didn't like it when Ricardo was beating Max in the Red Bull during the time they spend together, so now no more good drivers allowed and they cannot change the car to their own driving style.

Why? He couldn't even beat Yuki. And Yuki isn't exactly a top tier driver to begin with. If you can't beat Yuki, you shouldn't be in one of the fastest cars on the entire grid.
Seems Red Bull only promotes bad drivers to their main team. First Perez, and now Lawson. Yuki isn't that spectacular either and there are rumors that he is going to replace Lawson soon.
Red Bull could have gotten Carlos Sainz last year ....

Honda is keeping Yuki, he is their golden boy. If Yuki performs badly, they won't replace him with Daniel.
The current situation with Lawson is most likely happening because Honda is upset with Red Bull, since Yuki should have been promoted to Red Bull instead of Lawson.
In the end, Marko Helmut is a racist, which could have influenced Lawson getting promoted over Yuki, as Lawson was clearly not promoted based on merit / driving ability.
So I can see why Honda is angry.

Honda will probably make sure Yuki will stay till the end of the season. They got a lot of power within Red Bull, and Honda is backing Yuki.
In the end, Yuki should have been promoted to Red Bull based on merit / driving ability. And this is what probably have pissed Honda off. It's not only due to those 2 races by Lawson (which has added fuel to the fire obviously).
Yuki will most likely get replaced by the end of the year, when Honda leaves Red Bull.

Nobody gets to F1 by not being good at all. Even Lance Stroll who gets a lot of flack is a very skilled driver.
Do the best 20 get in? Probably not but I bet they’re all in the top 50 or so.
Out of a population of several billion it’s hard to say they’re not good at all.
They are not good as F1 drivers. They don't belong in one of the best cars on the grid.
Gasly is better than both Yuki and Lawson, and Red Bull considered him as a failure.
And please, you don't get to F1 by being the best, you get to F1 by having $$$$$$$$. It's an elitism "sport". In Go-karting, some kids even have budgets of $200.000. Kids who compete in Formula 3, are bringing more than $1.000.000 just to participate.
The current drivers on the grid, are very likely not the most talented ones as there is a huge bias selection based on how much $$$$$$ you have as a kid.

Please, Max wouldn't be in F1 if his dad wasn't Jos Verstappen. Without Jos Verstappen his $$$$$$$$ and connections, he would been nowhere.
If Max grew up in a regular family, you would have never heard about Max.

And to add to that. There is Belgium Limburg, and Netherlands Limburg 🙂 Max grew up in Maaseik which is a border town and in Belgium, but walk 2 minutes, and you are in the Netherlands. The BeNeLux (Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg) had open borders well before the European Union. It was quite normal for people to sleep in Belgium and go to school or play sports or have friends in the Netherlands. Some may say it also had to do with personal wealth, as Belgium was a bit more tax friendly. My parents live in a border town as well, as did my grandparents. Limburg is also host to the Max Verstappen shop, 🙂 which is 30 minutes into the Netherlands from Maaseik.
So yes, there is a lot of possibility for credence to what that paper reports.
Sure you need sponsorship, but you won't get (keep) sponsorship if you can't race. It isn't just one without the other. And you need to maintain your licences etc.
You don't get sponsorship from Ron Dennis or Red Bull simply by being born. You got to fund your own Go-karting career first and this requires an insane amounts of money.
Even, Lewis Hamilton, who was an extremely succesful driver as kid, his father had to work 4 jobs at the same time and they were struggling financially because all the money was going in just Go-karting. And Anthony Hamilton was an IT manager, which is one of the highest paid jobs in the world.
I have also seen this myself as I used to race myself as a kid. If you think you will compete by yourself by buying a cheap Go-kart and go compete, you are mistaken. I have seen kids who spend $200.000 per year back then (which is probably alot more in 2025 adjusted for inflation). And these are 13-year old kids with rich parents.
Without parents who have alot of money, you won't even get your career started as a kid.

Sacrifices are required in numerous areas. It is the way of the world, and what we do for our children to help them. Nothing wrong with it.
Yes, but regular families cannot do this. It's not like running or soccer where anybody with talent can compete.
With soccer or running, it is clear that the most talented people in the world have reached it to the top, because there is little to no financial barrier that prevents people from competing.
Of course this is all true but kids that never got in a go kart won’t have the skills to be an F1 driver.
The people with the skills rise to the top wether they got those skills because of advantage or not.
You can have all the whataboutery you want but it’s still absurd to say these guys aren’t good at all.
