The Formula One power unit Manufacturers have agreed to new testing of ICE compression ratios going forward.
  • Engines will be tested at ambient temperatures until 1 June.
  • After 1 June until the end of the season, they will then be tested at both ambient temperatures and at 130 degrees Celsius.
  • Starting in 2027, the engines will be tested only at 130 degrees Celsius.

Not sure if this is going to actually mean anything as it is believed Mercedes extra compression comes at temperatures beyond 130C so the test will not catch it.

And there was speculation that the other PU manufacturers wanted the elimination of the cold test (which will occur come 2027) because they want to run their ICEs at ratios higher than 16:1 while at ambient. This is because a normal engine will lose compression as the operating temperature rises so if they start at 16:1 ambient, they could be as low as 15:1 at operating temp. So if they start at a higher compression ratio at ambient temp, they can hit 16:1 at operating temp.

If you survived a season during the slaughter years, before safety was a priority, you are a legend, to have his list of wins, makes him almost a super legend, only very few have class, think Mr J Stewart ESQ, as an example...

I guess mario-kart was taken? Mario Caddy 1 maybe??? A bit to golfy..maybe??

This 130C temperature is a false narrative. There is a growing consensus that Mercedes has developed some very sophisticated machining techniques. Time will tell.

calm down dude

Sorry, Michael was a whiner who blamed everyone else when things didn't go his way. Or maybe it just was the "curse".

Funny story about that. Well you may not think it was funny, but I did. In 1994 we were in Indy for the inaugural Brickyard 400 ( a race that NEVER matched the hype) and we were walking around Broadripple and a store was advertising Andretti Wine on their marquee. I found an "H" and well, you can get the idea. LOL

Looks like Aston-Honda are reliving the McLaren-Honda era where the PU design has been compromised in order to meet the chassis demands. I have a sinking feeling that like McLaren's management in 2015-2017, Lawrence and Adrian are not going to be all that accommodating in giving Honda the room that they need to recover in a timely manner.

lol. Nah he's a baby for sure. Probably Mario too but it was a nice for him to have the car named in his honor.

Your post kinda poo pooed his moment.

At least the car will be going slow enough for the fans in Japan to get a good look at it...? And every other track as well...

I knew this was going to be it. You could hear in the comments from Satoshi in Sakura. HRC doesn't throw around comments on a whim. Newey has gone over the edge once again. I'd love to look at his AMR contract. Lawerence Stroll is a fairly ruthless business person. Have to wonder what clauses are in there......

Looks like you’ll be able to choose between the F1TV announcers or the Sky Sports team, kind of like choosing either the home radio or Apple TV announcers for MLS.

This is the highlight of the next 5 years. Never watching the biased, tabloid, flag waving coverage from Sky again can’t arrive soon enough for me. Apple TV coverage will have background audio as well. I think Eddie Cue has done his homework on this deal. The coverage is going to be good based on some of the initial interviews being released.

His last two major fumbles - the RB3 and MP4-18 - were both due to compressed development schedules and that is the case with the AMR26. They were four months late getting it into the wind tunnel and they are still experiencing serious correlation issues with the wind tunnel, CFD models and simulators.

Motorsport is reporting this morning that AMR will take the warmup lap in Australia, then retire due to parts shortages. 😩

If true, this does make some sense to me. They cannot run the car at speed due to the vibration issues and if they are consistently 4-5 seconds a lap down on the majority of the field, I could see them being black-flagged and DQ'd for operating the car in an "unsafe condition" to get it off the track and out of everyone's way.

If that’s the plan why not just pass up the event and save a few grand?

They need all the on-track time they can get so they can use the three FP sessions for that. They then do one qualifying lap and park the car.

Alonso has actually been optimistic things will be resolved and has not thrown Honda under the bus like he did at McLaren.
He was first with McLaren as well. I hope Aston Martin and Honda get their act together, but time isn’t on Fernando Alonso’s side. He just became a father too, so I’d imagine he’s not going to stick around unless the team shows signs of improvement in 2026.

I’ve only had the Sky broadcast on ESPN so I’ll be interested in hearing the F1TV crew for the first time.

No mention of this yet and without going into the reasons, could Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and Qatar be under threat for this season? Sort of hoping two of those disappear from the calendar, but it’s quite a quandary for organisers so close to the start of the season.
