So somebody was showing me this web site about "being different" and not buying an iPod at idont.com. Something about this web strikes me as very odd. It would have you believe it is some third party group or organization promoting alternatives to iPods... which is fine and dandy.

However, it seems awefully good and surely, the web site in combination with the T-shirt operation, cost some money. Also, the only *alternative* they suggest is the SanDisk Sansa e200....

Is this a big evil ploy by SanDisk itself?

Hmmm.... let's make a website calling people who buy iPods "unoriginal."

And then provide them with this option:
Sansae200_straight.jpg

Anybody else see a striking resemblance to another popular mp3 player?

This, SanDisk is why you're third in the mp3 player market - Apple 1st, Daylight 2nd, SanDisk 3rd.

That image reminds me of how aweful those icon based interfaces are for an MP3 player.

This actually looks pretty good.

"SanDisk" not "scandisk". :D

ilounge story here

So they want us to boycott one giant company so we will buy from another. Lame tactics. Now maybe if they offered a product that was better than the iPod, but they don't.

I went to www.sandisk.com and clicked on "Contact Us" at the bottom, to tell them how stupid they are. I suggest everyone here do the same.

This is not about competition. It is about an unfounded smear campaign with poor taste.

That's so sleazy. To be fair, not much sleazier than all the other advertising around.

There is non-sleazy advertising, and then there is sleazy advertising.

For example, Apple's iPod advertising merely show people dancing around with iPods, wheras SanDisk's advertising tells us we shouldn't buy the clearly better MP3 player, because everyone has one, and instead buy their crap product just for the sake of "being different" - without even suggesting that their product is actually better (which SanDisk doesn't even attempt to do). Pathetic.

Remember those Gateway Profile 4 vs Apple iMac G4 commercials?

I would publicize this lame move to other potential customers, which will kill off any "hipness" they are trying to achieve through that site. It would be much more effective.

The irony is, I own a SanDisk player. :) No, not the one pictured here, it is more original. :)

iDon't

Well looks like SanDisk is playing "dirty," literally. They have started a new campaign called "iDon't" which is simply a guerilla-style anti-iPod movement in hopes of decreasing iPod popularity. They call for "free thinkers" and "malcontents" to rise up "against the iTatorship" and buy non-iPod players. It's really sad. The basis of their argument is that you are a conformist if you buy an iPod and non-conformists aren't cool. The site is designed to be like a grafitto-tag-esque design, but it just looks really lame.

Follow the links and have a chuckle for yourself :)

Okay, so my desire for perfection in the items I buy makes me a sheep?!?!
Screw them and the sheep they road in on.
