Of course, is anyone surprised? I've been on a nostalgia binge watching Steve Jobs announcing new products. It was one bold feature or upgrade after another, not this baby incremental crap they do now. Apple needs new blood and bold vision now!!

The 20th anniversary iPhone edition should only be awarded to iFold or foldable iPhone signifying the iPhone transformation from the birth/regular one screen display to the hybrid iPhablet. No one display design change should hold the 20th anniversary edition at all. The transformative experience is significant enough to make an iPhone to become a mini iPad when unfolded. It is the significant design change in Apple phone world.

I used the 16MP under-display selfie cam on a RedMagic phone. It's better than the 4MP one Samsung was using on the old Folds, but not good enough for anything outside of videoconferencing. The tech is cool, but it is always going to be a compromise. I would rather have a folding phone with no outer-screen selfie cam where I can use the main camera to take selfies.

Watch the announcement of Blue Dalmatian and Flower Power iMacs. Apple has been far less than just incremental many times.

Apple is the absolute master of smoke and mirrors marketing.

Nothing if not clever, they've spent years conditioning their followers to accept anything the company does or doesn't do. To accept incredibly long delays, lack of features compared to Android phones and high premium prices especially when Apple ads the word "Pro" to the product.

Even more amazing is how many Apple devotees take the company's side when they fail to deliver features that Android phones have. The masters of controlling and promoting the narrative when making customers wait for common features they say "we do it better"

It’s an impressive display of their influence and control over the public.

FFS Apple, don't let me down and make me buy iPhone 18 next year. I want the no cut out 20th anniversary iPhone!

This is hilarious, the best we could ever hope for was Face ID behind the display.

I want this cheap unibody gone, I want titanium back and a glass back like the Air.

I won't touch a pro while it feels cheap and looks lesser compared to the Air.

iPhone 20 needs to use new battery tech like Chinese phones, slim like the Air and PREMIUM materials.

It could just turn out to be a whole new device and not a pro, or even the Air with new tech,

I find it absolutely insane how much noise there is and has been for years around dynamic island and its size. Who the hell cares, if they shrunk the dynamic island by 2mm or even take it under screen. iPhone X debuted 9 years ago, it removed the home button and top/bottom bezels, there has been no significant innovation since then.

A 20-year anniversary iPhone just to get rid of a screen cutout? Doesn't sound like a huge improvement compared to the 10-year anniversary one that went from the home button to this entire all-screen era. It's a whole new world.

So, it's fine - let them figure out the cutout thing as a technical assignment. For 2027, the priority now is to make something really next-generation. Foldable? An iPhone/iPad hybrid? Rollable? Transparent? Something 3D? I don't know.

Not surprised.... Apple is just not that edgy anymore with hardware. They rather trickle you to death... It's too soon for them to move away from the cutout, they can get at least 2 more generations of clamining " we made the cutout 20% smaller and we think you're going to love it!"

Depends on the definition of "all new". Apple claimed the Apple Watch is all new (2 gen? ago) and it basically hasn't changed

I’m shocked. Jk I been saying I don’t believe it. They won’t get rid of the notch then make all screen the following year

There’s another way around this! Just start using the S model numbers again until they’re ready for 20. The name iPhone 19SSSS just rolls off the tongue.
