article hype

I read the article on macbytes before it appeared on macrumors. It is real interesting. I was not arround at that time, but i can imagine what a hype it must have been to no longer control the pc with text commands but intuitively, with a mouse!

sorry if this is a double post, i did not read the forums though.

Sorry about the mis-info...sheesh. So I got confused on the dates. Nobody is expecting 3ghz G5's, so when they come out...people will see I was right.

but when? you first said mwsf, then this month of jan, now we may be looking at superbowl? man you need to shakedown your contacts a little harder neatgekko.

Hey, somebody go down to the Safeway and send Apple 20 apples :D
Sorry, I can't. Southern California is still having a major supermarket strike, so we poor citizens have been going without food or household supplies for 3 months. On the bright side, since we haven't been able to buy anything at the supermarket, we can spend all the money we saved on Apple's new products!

Keep saying it, and eventually it'll be right... Pretty good motto.
I suppose all your other (entirely wrong) predictions for MWSF will also be out before the end of the month as well?

I really hope they release an inexpensive headless mac. I have been looking into getting my first mac for awhile, and now with the release of GarageBand I want one more than ever. But I don't have too much money to spend on it, and I don't want an eMac becuase I don't want to be limited to one monitor, plus their sorta ugly.

I would pay $700 - $900 for a 1.6 ghz G5, 512mb RAM, Superdrive, 64 or 128 mb video card, 60 - 80 gb hard drive, all in a nice aluminum cube. :D

you cant even get a G4 for that price and you think apple is going to make a G5 for that price? you need to step back into the real world with real prices. if apple does a G5 imac or headless imac they will double your prices. G4 pro towers are getting cheaper maybe look for one of those.

Do you need us to send you some food and household supplies from Boston? If we take care of each other then we can both get the new Apple products. Now it's just according to the timing. ;)

Thanks for the offer, wdlove, but we'll be OK. Californians are always into fad diets, so this mandatory no-food diet is just the latest one. And, without food, you don't need napkins or toilet paper either, so it all works out.

If Apple chooses the anniversary date for product announcements, they will probably be products that they would have announced this month anyway. Any improvement in the product line (usually more power for the same price) would be welcome.

On the other hand, if Apple has a special "anniversary product", it'll likely be an attention getter out of the price range for most of us. Remember that the 1997 "20th Anniversary Mac" cost close to $10,000 at first, if I remember correctly.

According to EveryMac (my favorite source for this type of info). The 20th Anniversary Mac was $7,500.

Hopefully, if there is a 20th Anniversary product, Apple will make it a real product and not a gimmick this time around. I am excited to see what if anything is released. I am sure the 20th Anniversary Mac's were amazing computers, but they were not priced for the masses, and isn't that who the "1984" commercial promised to free?

However, I am trying very hard to temper my enthusiasm with the knowledge that nothing may be released in the next week at all.

No, they stole it from Xerox. I don't know if they have the patent or not.

Apparently, the price was a moving target. This site says the price "started at $9000, then dropped to $7500, to $4000, then to $2000" while this site says "The Twentieth Anniversary Mac was a limited edition, and sold for nearly $10,000. Its price was cut to as low as $1,999 and it was discontinued in March 1998".

I'm picturing a black/dark dark grey annodized G5 with a 2.6GHz processor with some cool laser etching.

I'm highly doubting a cheap computer for their 20th. Remember the TAM at nearly $10k? They're going to make something rather elite if you ask me.

lower pb prices?

A friend of mine recently bought a pb from an apple store (Her first mac, took me awhile to convince her to get it). I had told her of the anniversary coming up, though, and so she was a little worried about that. She asked the guy what would happen if a newer pb came out on the 24th, and he told her to wait. He went away for awhile, where only employees could go, and came back and told her not to worry about it. She asked what would happen if the prices dropped on that day, and he got the manager. The manager told her that they would be able to do something if the prcies dropped, and she said she got the impression he thought they were going to. Lower prices? A few employees trying to make a customer feel ok? Take it as you will.

A G5 Tube perhaps with a holographic display.

If it means more raw speed in Apple products, bring it on. It can only be a plus. Some people love the form factor and style does sell to a certain segment.

From a personal prespective, if its not upgradable then I don't care if it has a G8 in it, my money will stay in the PowerMac fund.

Please don't spout FUD here. Apple didn't steal a THING from Xerox, they got permission to use the research ideas Xerox was using in making REAL products. Xerox had no intention of using this stuff so they let Apple use it and got shares in Apple in return.

I think you fail to notice that my mwsf predict was entirely correct(even price), minus the G5 update release. I always said it was going to be this month and it is. Thats not new news because everyone is expecting G5 updates...what I am saying is that they will be at 3ghz, not 2.6. The 2.6Ghz was ready to ship in october, but apple decided not to update...better for this months...'Giant Leap' *smiles*

apple will not release a consumer mac without a moniter period... why?

1. the orignal mac's philosophy was that it was a all-in-one computer...

2. steve jobs doesn't like it

3. a all-in-one computer works... u don't need to have to buy a monitor and plug it in and stuff... its what many consumers want...

i am really hoping for something big on saturday... i really hope for a total redesign of the imac line because, the flat panel imacs are head-turning, but the prices are head turning too... apple needs to make a low end product (g4) imac thats cheap and good looking...

G5 iMac

I'd love to see an all Aluminum imac with the current formfactor, A "Ruby" Apple logo to ceebrate the 20 years, G5 processors at 1.8/2Ghz and 512 Ram, superdrive, 128 meg Graphics card and plays "Happy Birthday" every time you start up. (Ok scrap that last part)

a all in one can work if made of current componets such as the original imac crt, but where the current model fails is its old and slow technology(G4) held back because of powermac & powerbook and sales have proven that. Also as i and many have stated having a consumer machine with a monitor forces joe PC user to throw away his monitor or forces him into the Protowers. monitors last a long time. this is flawed thinking. They should be selling 10 times as many consumer machines as pro models but apple isnt why? 1 they are trying to sell old technology 2 they dont have a consumer product to connect with a monitor so they are squeezing themself out of this market. a all in one is fine but they have to have something for those with monitors who dont have 2 thousand bucks to spend.

i think something huge is going to happen..

reason is the recent HP-Apple partnership was huge news but never really was leaked or known about till the official announcement. Apple is taking much care now in its secrecy policy so maybe they are hiding a huge monster of a computer or maybe an army of many awesome computers. Anyways, thats my hope and my dream. :D

I'm just hoping for ANYTHING on the 24th. We mac fans have been deprived of a big product release for nearly 7 months now. (Since the G5, the iPod mini doesn't count.) But, I am hoping for a 2.6 GHZ G5 especially, but a 3 GHz would be simply amazing! Intel and AMD would have to work to catch up to that for months, years even!
