If you just got it, take it back. The keyboard, top Al case, battery, and trackpad are part of the same top case assembly and usually sold as a unit. I believe Apple will replace the whole thing as part of battery replacement, but not sure if they will touch it if a non-Apple repair has been attempted.
 
Did you already reset the PRAM and SMC? I'm not sure that'll solve your problem, but it's worth a shot! It's been a while since I ran a MacBook without a battery, but IIRC that shouldn't change whether or not it recognizes the internal trackpad in System Prefs.
 
Hahaha Jerry I wish I lived where you did, with honest people. The seller clearly knew about the issue and chose not to disclose it. They blocked me swiftly after I asked them about it later that day.

Sorry to hear that. Sounds like a real scum. You should post this story and his info on social media.
