24" imac backlights horizontal or vertical?

    Are they mounted vertically or horizontally? I'm curious to see which is the case in regards to the infamous gradient. Thanks.

    Almost certainly horizontal. I've never seen a widescreen panel
    with anything else. Vertical mounting would require more tubes,
    more connectors and more high voltage AC driver channels from
    the inverter. That's a big cost penalty for no benefit.

    The only way that horizontally mounted CCFL tubes could cause a left-to-right
    brightness gradient would be for the tubes to have uneven brightness along
    their lengths. In the case of the gradients frequently reported for 24" iMacs,
    most/all of the tubes would have to have matching axial non-uniformities.

    There is one known mechanism that might explain this seemingly unlikely
    phenomenon. It's the most plausible explanation I've seen, but it still falls
    into the realm of pure speculation:
