    Hi,

I am 14 and have just saved the most amount of money in my life that has taken me along time. I am saving for a 24" iMac (Which by the way is my first ever mac). I have currently got just over £1000. I will be buying at Christmas so as you can probably guess I am extremely excited.

I am constantly reading about problems with the 24" iMac. Some being with the fans, some with the hard drives but most with the screen. I am concerned about spending all that money and then it being damaged. I have a few questions on this topic.

    1. How safe am i buying a 24" iMac?
    2. What percentage of 24" iMacs are sent back (roughly)?
    3. How good are apple at refunding or fixing the iMacs?
    4. Does AppleCare make a difference to the replacement process?

    Thanks in advance.

    You will be fine.

    1) Very Safe
    2) < 1% (less than 1%)
    3) Apple is great at fixing systems.
    4) No, since Apple Care is included for the first year.

    1. I would say very safe. Mine is a year old now and I have no problems.
    2. I would say less then 5% would be a fair number.
    3. Very Good you have 14 days to get a full refund that's pretty fair I would say.
    4. Only after 90 days because you get no phone support after that only in store.

    Thanks. Dead Pixels???

    Thanks all.

I have read some stuff about dead pixels. How often does that happen?

I have also read stuff about apple wont take a imac back if it has dead pixels. Is that true? How do you get round that? Why do they do that?

    Thanks in advance again

Most people don't post just to say they don't have any problems with their Mac--so of course, you see a lot of problems posted--just as it should be on this forum. But most of us are doing just fine with our Mac. :)

Dead pixels occurring is a possibility with LCD displays. Apple has a minimum number before they will take it back as a defect. I believe the number to be between 3 and 5, but you can ask when you purchase, just to make sure.

    this is true

When I bought my IMAC, I was obsessed with reading forums about the dead pixels and bleeding and I got extremely anxious to investigate if my machine would be defective. It arrived eventually after four days and it was perfect.

I'm sure I would have posted something on MACRUMORS if anything was wrong.

    ENJOY
