Just got one and noticed that the MacBook runs a lot hotter with this display. I am concerned about running it with my MacBook closed and the heat damaging the screen over time. Idles at around 64c and 75c - 80c when watching video.

Close the lid and turn the macbook upside down? Not a very elegant solution but It should work until you find out a better way.

Ive run my late 2007 MB in clamshell mode with my 24" Westinghouse since I got the thing. It does run a little warm, but I've never experienced a problem with it. If you're really worried, leave the lid open slightly, keeps it a bit cooler.

I have the same MacBook as you, with a 24" Samsung display, and I idle around 48c to 52c, and up to 78c when watching videos. I guess it could depend on how cold your climate is.
