iPod Google buying YouTube, Good for Apple and iTV

Google buys YouTube for $1.6 billion in stock.This deal is amazing. Everyone said buying YouTube was deadly due to their high bandwidth costs. If anyone could deal with the bandwidth costs Google can make it work. iTV if the rumors of the connections with Google are true, putting a YouTube link in iTV seems like a perfect combo is steve gives the thumbs up to this sort of content.

Thoughts?
 
This is interesting... is this basically a statement that YouTube is superior to Google Video? If the whole system for Google Video gets enhanced by YouTube, though, then it's also good for Apple if people find out about PodTube. :)
 
i ahve heard that they are going to keep google videos and youtube seperate, so do you think they would be linking iTV to google videos as well?
 
youTube and google video = loads of home movies and random clips to download. Yes it could be good for Apple but that depends if it will be included in the iTV setup.
 
With the Google CEO on Apple's board, Apple's multimedia power, and now Google owning YouTube who wants to bet iLife 07's iMovie has a video studio similar to Garageband's Podcast studio with an "Export for YouTube" option?

I just got a gut feeling... with all those new Intel Macs with iSights built in, it's a natural evolution.
 
The buyout price is, to say the least, extravagant. For the money Google is inheriting potentially huge unresolved copyright issues. These guys better get some adult supervision on board soon or they're going to be in big trouble.

I thought I saw somewhere that YouTube signed deals with major studios.
 
The time is right for Apple to embrace online video websites.

1. The CEO of Google is on Apple's board.
2. Google now owns YouTube, the #1 online video website
3. YouTube has major brand recognition, and is a hot topic in the media
4. Online video websites fill needs not served by any other product:
a) YouTube videos are the perfect kind of content for an iPod.
b) YouTube is a great medium for publishing clips.

I think iLife '07 should have serious YouTube integration. YouTube and iTunes could be hooked together in a way. A "Download in iTunes" button on a YouTube video page would actually open iTunes and download the video through the iTunes download manager, filing it automatically under "Movies".

In addition, Apple could add YouTube support to iWeb (that is, embedding videos in pages) and iMovie could add a YouTube publishing feature.

Perhaps, but even so, they're going to have an almost impossible time weeding out unlicensed material. At least part of YouTube's appeal is the lack of rules. Google's plan has to include lawsuit avoidance, and since they can never obtain licenses from every copyright holder, they're going to be playing a constant game of whack-a-mole, and become unpopular with users in the process of trying to stamp out violations. I wish Google luck -- they're certainly going to need it.

I've never heard of youporn before sorry I thought it was something you made up :p I did check the link before posting but it's not loading the site.
 
I think the news is funny after hearing this week's TWIT episode where they flat out poo-pooed the validity of the rumors.

Oh well.

A very interesting buy indeed. I hope they manage to curb the bandwidth costs.

I agree, even if they signed deals, there is so much random, copyrighted stuff from movies, TV, etc etc on there. Then again, google video is in a similar boat, I dont think they have much guidelines either.

Amazing how Walmart and Target threaten studios about iTunes downloads; the studios want all this Trusted Computing Platform stuff on our machines, yet YouTube and Google Video are just out there swarming with material.

Google is better off waiting out the fad

YouTube offers homemade video that is amusing for a few time around but I quickly become bored. I'm a typical person in America, and if i'm bored of youtube after several go, it can't be worth much. Youtube has nothing unique that Microsoft, Yahoo, Google, CNN, Wired, myspace etc. can't offer.

A infinitely brilliant genius MBA working for Google had probably concocted this aquisition idea. Instead of coming out with original content/solution they rather buy it from someone else. If this is the case, Google is growing old quickly.

At least they didn't buy AOL like Time Warner did back in the day:D .

Google is about to get sued left and right for copyright infringement. YouTube was protected because they had no money for which to sue.
 
This is definitely interesting to say the least. I'm very curious to see how this plays out.

Although I doubt this is in any way directly related to Apple.
 
or they have too much money to be sued, who wants to take them on...

ok everyone would, but I'm glad it leaves Cuban on the sideline.
 
damn, just adds more fuel to the current web 2.0 bubble. And yes, I do believe a bubble may be starting to form. Youtube is less than 2 years old at this point, so you know every tom, dick and harry is gonna be buying up every half brained idea that they can.

that being said good job youtube, it's definitely one of my fav sites.
