Today Apple released the Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro (Apple Store).

Apple today announced that its entire MacBook(TM) Pro line of notebooks now includes the new Intel Core 2 Duo processor and delivers performance that is up to 39 percent faster than the previous generation. All MacBook Pro models now offer double the memory and greater storage capacity than the previous generation, as well as a FireWire(R) 800 port for connecting to high-speed peripherals

The long awaited upgrade brings the Core 2 Duo processor to Apple's professional laptops. Prices remain the same and the specs are as follows:

15" MacBook Pro, 2.16GHz, 1GB, 120GB HD, $1999.
15" MacBook Pro, 2.33GHz, 2GB, 120GB HD, $2499.
17" MacBook Pro, 2.33GHz, 2GB, 160GB HD, $2799.

The new MacBook Pros will be available from the online Apple Store.

As expected really. Shame about no graphics card update, but it's better than no upgrade at all.

Now next year, we want HD screens Apple ;)

hopefully they changed the hdd replacement
and the heat issues

looking foward on the macbook release
hopefully with gma x3000 graphics

Everything I wanted. Larger storage, much more memory and FW800.

Apple, you're the 1 :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

as expected? 2GB RAM as standard configuration for the upper two is a little more than I expected.

I hereby declare an end to all the "Waiting for Moron" threads.

From the press release:

"up to 39 percent faster than the previous 2.16 GHz MacBook Pro"

Really? I'd like to see those benchmarks... nice that they finally added FW800 back into the 15" model.

Would anyone happen to know if they changed the case design.

The apple store is still down…

The 17 inch looks almost affordable, almost.

Well

If the prices havn't changed as mentioned above then this may make some people who were thinking of getting macbooks justify paying the extra for the pro, it seems more worth while now. I was in that position in june but I went for the Macbook.

i mean for everyone who waited this long, Santa Rosa is coming up soon, so why not wait for that as well? i say get what you need when you need it... there will always be newer tech down the line

FW800 on both sizes.

200GB HDD (at 4200rpm) available.

Good initial RAM 1GB on lower models, 2GB on high end ones.

Everything else seems pretty much the same.

Can't forget the thing people have been screaming about. Isn't it nice to find this stuff out before 4am Chundles?
