Amazon is developing a large-sized foldable device similar to the one Huawei unveiled on Monday, according to industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

"My research indicates that Amazon is also internally developing a similar product, which has not yet officially kicked off," said Kuo in a post on X (Twitter). Kuo added that the device is projected to enter mass production in late 2026 or 2027 if development progresses on schedule.

Apple is rumored to be planning a foldable device of a similar vein. Rumors suggest that the dual-screen foldable will be around 13 inches when folded and 18.8 inches when unfolded. Rumors are conflicting on whether it will be an iPad or a MacBook, but the defining factor will be the operating system.

Kuo believes Apple's large-sized foldable is scheduled to enter mass production in late 2027 or 2028. Apple is concurrently developing a foldable iPhone that is expected to launch towards the end of 2026.

Good! Competition is undeniably beneficial for consumers, driving innovation and keeping prices competitive while encouraging businesses to deliver higher quality products and services. It’s exactly what we need to kick Apple on their lazy innovative butt and push them to actually create meaningful improvements rather than incremental updates.

Hell no. Lol. Amazon tablets are not good. No way I’ll trust them to make high-end devices. They should stick to the low to mid-range market.

Will take time to get used to the touch keyboard, but it's better solution to keep the tablet form and eliminate weight distribution problem of the iPad (top heavy when using keyboard cover).

I can't work out the maths on those projected Apple dimensions. The image naturally suggests a product that will fold roughly in half, so when it's placed at a hinged 90 degree angle you are coming close to replicating the current laptop sort of experience with a 13" screen as the elevated part and what would be, I imagine, a touch screen keyboard on the flat half of the device.

But surely if the device is unfolded and used in the form to get the maximum screen size then it would add a lot more than 5.5" to its real estate?

As a long time Kindle user I’m really interested to see what Amazon comes up with. I hope it’s a lot better than that awful Colorsoft device they launched last year.

They make the best ebook readers. And their tablets cost a fraction of an iPad and are not bad at all, considering that. Perfect for many people.

I wish Apple would ditch the new style iPad Pro keyboard case. It’s an absolute pain to use. The previous design was much better.

Huwawei is now the clear technology leader in this space. But people in the USA are "protected" from having the choice to be able to use them or for most to even learn of the existence of Huawei products.

Amazon tablets are great value for money. If they do make a folding tablet I doubt it will be “high-end”. It’s more likely to be a reasonably priced mass market device.
