FireOS is terrible. It serves one purpose. A cheap kids tablet with the Kids content for free for 2 years. It's horrible to use, manage and do anything beyond that kids interface. Burn it with Fire.

It's a good cheap kids tablet; dont use it as something it isn't. Similarly I wouldn't use an e-ink kindle for watching videos.

Amazon is developing a large-sized foldable device similar to the one Huawei unveiled on Monday, according to industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

"My research indicates that Amazon is also internally developing a similar product, which has not yet officially kicked off," said Kuo in a post on X (Twitter). Kuo added that the device is projected to enter mass production in late 2026 or 2027 if development progresses on schedule.

Apple is rumored to be planning a foldable device of a similar vein. Rumors suggest that the dual-screen foldable will be around 13 inches when folded and 18.8 inches when unfolded. Rumors are conflicting on whether it will be an iPad or a MacBook, but the defining factor will be the operating system.

Kuo believes Apple's large-sized foldable is scheduled to enter mass production in late 2027 or 2028. Apple is concurrently developing a foldable iPhone that is expected to launch towards the end of 2026.

Yikesss… no one wants this.

Good! Competition is undeniably beneficial for consumers, driving innovation and keeping prices competitive while encouraging businesses to deliver higher quality products and services. It’s exactly what we need to kick Apple on their lazy innovative butt and push them to actually create meaningful improvements rather than incremental updates.
Nice try but nope.

Since Panos Panay, former Head of Surface devt at Microsoft, joined Amazon 2 years ago, this is a good semi-bluff.
Lately, Apple seems to promise a lot but fails to deliver, leaving the stage to competitors who were just expecting to be fast followers.

They probably saw the Huawei news, and wanted in to make some money. Some money is better than nothing.

Judging by their current lineup of tablets, this device will be sheet. Huawei makes more sense as a good competitor.
Huawei making things that nobody wants and calling themselves innovators lol an answer to a question nobody asked is what companies like Huawei and Xiaomi is good at

Huwawei is now the clear technology leader in this space. But people in the USA are "protected" from having the choice to be able to use them or for most to even learn of the existence of Huawei products.
Ok literally nobody thinks that lol nobody is thinking Huawei is a leader in anything. People have not missed a single thing not having Huawei in the US because there is nothing to miss. Tell me in what segment are they a market leader? Where are their iPhones and iPads and vision pros? They can make things that fold and thats not saying much I assure you nobody thinks about Huawei because there is nothing to miss and not because the US people are protected. This is just a convenient truth they hide from the fact they make mediocre tech that is just ok. They operate in 170 countries and tell me where do they dominate? What product? They are decent products but don't get delusional and think they are leaders in anything. Like most people, if they have money, they're going for Apple or Samsung because Samsung (not Huawei) is the actual market leader and innovator of this tech. Not Huawei or Xiaomi. They are just ok nothing special. I'll be kind not bringing up any IP robbery that goes on over there.

Surprised to hear about a device from Amazon. Possible that this larger foldable device might be the one launching a year after the normal foldable iPhone launches. For sure expecting this device to be super expensive.

Previous rumors had Amazon dumping FireOS for something else. Probably because they never got much developer traction on their App Store and APIs, since a lot of people just sideloaded the Play store onto their Fire tablets instead.
