$249 to replace iPhone battery!

I was thinking about keeping my 8G iPhone instead of replacing with new iPhone3G.
An Apple Tech by phone told me today (Monday, June 9) that my warranty expires at the end of this month. If i need to replace the battery after that date it will currently cost $249! Unbelievable!

I think they we're mistaking...I though it was 49 or 99....not 249(which is more then a new 8GB iPhone)
