24W vs 29W Chargers

Between a 24W charger with using a standard lightning cable and using USB Type C power delivery w/ USB Type C to lightning 29W combo, will I notice a huge difference if I go with the 24W one?

Apple doesn’t make it super clear...
But the way I understand it, iPhone can charge upto 10-12w from a beefier USBA charger like iPad brick or what you linked.
But upto 18W from a USBC charging supporting USBC power delivery.

Where did you get this info? I'm pretty sure I read on the Apple site that the iPhone X and iPhone 8s can only charge at a maximum 15w?

Which would make sense since the difference in charging times between a 12w and a 29w. The 29w and higher are the same charging speeds

I thought 29W was the fastest it went since I saw some graphs from 9to5Mac or some site like that showing the difference was 1 hr 15 minutes for 29W and 1 hr 35 minutes for 12W?

For iPhones yeah the 29w will be the fastest but I meant theres no difference from a 29w 61w and 87w. I'm pretty sure it gets capped at 15w

Why does it get capped at 15w when 29w is the lowest Apple option? So a 24W should get the same speed as the Apple 29W?

Not so sure but I imagine so it doesn't ruin the batteries. The chargers wasn't created for iPhones but more for Mac and iPad I think but yeah a 24W will get the same speed as the 29W

The 24W listed for that charger is the total power. It has two ports. USB-A can’t charge faster than 12W, so that charger would charge as fast as a standard iPad charger. You need a USB-C charger that supports Power Delivery for fast charging, but as said before, it’s not significantly faster than a 12W charger overall (although it charges noticeably faster in the beginning, it slows down the higher the battery percentage gets).

I have the older version of that Anker charger as part of my travel kit, and it has worked well. Never timed it, but has always charged my iPhones quickly.

Like it so much that I ordered this new one the other day on an Amazon lightning sale ($8.75?). Replacing a Tenergy 2-port charger (which is a bit funky in that my iPad will only charge on the Qualcomm QC port; my Anker is port agnostic), that has also charged my i8 quickly.

The 2-port non-USB-C chargers are a better deal, imo, in that they deliver high wattage/amperage at a low cost and use standard cables, and therefore gives one greater flexibility.

does the iphone not charge fast enough for everyone? I usually can put my phone in flight mode and 15mins later have a 20%+ charge increase. it's not healthy for any battery to force more current into it... it'll degrade the battery faster

still using my iPad brick at work i've had since the iPhone 5. i don't need to charge my X as often at work since the battery last a while now but works perfect and fast enough for me. use my nightstand with built in USB plugs to charge overnight which charges it fast AND have a TOPGREENER dual USB wall outlet purchased on amazon on our bar for a charge at home while necessary which also charges it fast. for travel, i use an Anker 2-port 24w charger I got for $10.99 and works perfect and fast.

i never got into the gimmick of the "fast charging" that apple is trying to sell to us. the chargers i have charge my iPhone fast enough for my needs. not worth the price for me. may be different for others but this is all IMO.

12W is still better than the 29W cost wise?

Guess depends how important fast charge is.

For me it’s worth the price for when I do need it fast charge in quick time.

I have both:
1. 12w ipad charger plus lighting to usb a cable 1m

And

2. 29w usb c charger plus usb-c to lightning cable 1m

From my testings i only noticed (2) makes the phone hot while charging while (1) doesnt. Speed wise almost the same with the 29w having the slight edge of +10% early in the charging from 0 to 55%+

But i suspect most people would be fine with a 12w charger since they have a plethora of usb a to lightning cables. Unless you use the macbook often its better to use the above
