Yeah, the last winner of an app countdown was downloading that Paper Glider(or something with a paper airplane and brown wood background as an icon, where you steer a paper airplane in a 3D environment) app. It was free...

I am sure they just credit your apple id... unless you give away your apple id I think you'd be SOL.

Yeah, I've been counting on it being wrong, each day for the last couple days I've downloaded somethng new, the chance of winning is super low, but atleast I have a chance that way, and I don't have to waste all my time stuffing the box with votes.
