256GB with "Other"

it can be a lot of good things depends.

sorry for the lack of example

was on my pc i am now on my mini look at my samsung it has mostly other. in my case it is eye tv recording. same for the 1tb ssd the 70 gb of other is mostly eyetv recordings

Download the free program OmniDiskSweeper which will present a sorted folder/file list by size and you can see what is consuming your disk space.

If you have a MBP, running Lion then some of that space will be for versions, local backup and a sleep image file.
